BASEBALL PAST CURRY, 12-8

Providence, RI—Sophomore
designated hitter Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) went
3-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBI and two home runs (7) as
Rhode Island College defeated Curry, 12-8, at Anchorman Field on
Thursday afternoon. |

RIC improves to 18-10 overall, while
Curry sees a 10-game winning streak come to an end as it drops to
24-4 on the season. The Anchormen’s 12 runs were the second-most
allowed by CC this spring. |

The Colonels took a 1-0 lead in the
first as senior right fielder James Geosits (Wyomissing, PA)
doubled in junior designated hitter Tony Luciani (Weymouth, MA).

The Colonels went on top, 2-1, in the
third as freshman second baseman David Stevens (Deerfield Beach,
FL) reached on an error and came across on a Geosits RBI single.
The hosts answered back in the home half of the frame, plating two
as senior center fielder B.J. Doyon (Douglas, MA) and Amorin
contributed run-scoring singles. |

RIC jumped out to a 7-2 lead with a
four-run fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from junior
right fielder Jared Rossi (Johnston, RI), a two-run blast by
sophomore designated hitter Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI)
and another key hit by Amorin. |
|
|
|
The visitors would not go quietly as
Geosits knocked in two in the fifth with a single. Curry put another
run up in the sixth as junior leftfielder Tim Sweeney (Walpole,
MA) registered an RBI single. Levesque made it an 8-5 game with
his second homer of the day in the home half of the inning. |

|
|
Geosits continued his hot hand at the
plate, pulling the Colonels within one run, 8-7, with a two-run
homer (10) in the seventh. Doyon gave the Anchormen some breathing
space with a two-out, two-run single, while freshman left fielder
Mike Nadiger (Warwick, RI) plated an additional insurance run
with an RBI fielder’s choice and senior shortstop Josh Cardoso
(New Bedford, MA) scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. |

Curry loaded the bases in the ninth,
but freshman reliever Andrew McKeon (Johnston, RI) was able
to get Geosits to ground into a double play, which produced a run,
then got junior first baseman Rick Vail (Lynnfield, MA) to
pop out to end the game. |

|
The Anchormen used four pitchers on
the day, with sophomore Rob Rushton (Freetown, MA) picking up
his fourth win (4-1) of the year. He hurled seven innings, allowing
five earned runs on nine hits, while striking out three. |

(Deerfield Beach, FL) took the loss (4-1), allowing five earned
runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings. |

|
Doyon went 3-for-5 with three RBI and
two runs scored, while Amorin went 3-for-5 as well with three RBI
and a run scored. Geosits went 4-for-5 with six RBI and a run
scored. |

|
|
In upcoming action, Rhode Island
College will resume the Little East Conference circuit with a single
game tomorrow afternoon at Western Connecticut. |
