ALMONTE SCORES RIC’S LONE MARKER
IN, 18-1, LOSS TO ROGER WILLIAMS

Bristol,
RI—Sophomore
midfielder Suany Almonte (Warwick, RI) scored RIC’s only
goal, while freshman midfielder Ashleigh Sullivan (Port Jefferson
Station, NY) picked up a team-high six ground balls, as Rhode
Island College suffered an 18-1 loss to Roger Williams on Thursday
afternoon in collegiate women’s lacrosse action. |

Roger
Williams senior Jackie Criss (Westwood, MA) started the
game’s scoring at 28:42 into the contest, assisted by junior
Natasha Billie (Point Pleasant, NJ) who tallied her own marker
just 1:22 later. Back-to-back goals by freshman Danica Delia
(Norwalk, CT) gave RWU the 4-0 lead with fewer than five minutes
expired in the half. RWU scored the next five goals before Almonte
sprinted the length of the field and scored to snap the Hawks’
scoring streak at the 15:52 mark. |

RWU finished
the half with five additional goals to take the 14-1 lead at the
break. |

|
The second
half featured 22 fewer shots than the first as the Hawks controlled
the pace of play. The Anchorwomen registered four shots in the
second frame, but RWU junior goalkeeper Amanda Magee (Columbus,
NJ) stopped them all, finishing the game with one goal allowed
and six saves. Her counterpart, sophomore Hilary Switzer
(Woonsocket, RI), registered eight saves in 60 minutes. |

The Hawks win
for the fifth straight game and improve to 9-2 overall, while RIC
drops to 1-11. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will host Framingham State on Saturday,
April 18. |
