ANCHORWOMEN FALL TO HUSKIES, 16-5

Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine) scored five goals as
the University of Southern Maine women’s lacrosse team ran past
Rhode Island College, 16-5, in Little East Conference action
Wednesday afternoon at rainy Hodgdon Field. |

The
win snapped a five-game losing skid for Huskies who improve to 5-8
overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Anchorwomen dropped their
12th straight game, sliding to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in LEC play. |

|
|
Senior
Caitlin Albert (Scarborough, Maine) complemented
Knight notching three goals and two assists for five points.
Sophomore Kelsey Rodrigue (Lewiston, Maine) had three
goals and one assist, and classmate Jessica Martineau
(Auburn, Maine) tallied twice. Sophomore goalie Rachel
Lolley (Gorham, Maine) recorded nine saves. |

Sophomore
Suany Almonte (Warwick, R.I.) scored two goals for RIC
before leaving the game with an injury. Rookies Nicky Drolet
(Somersworth, N.H.), Molly Voyer (Lincoln, R.I.)
and Jenna Childs (Cranston, R.I.) each had one
goal. Sophomore goalie Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, R.I.)
made 10 saves. |

Albert
and Knight put USM up 2-0 in the opening 1:13 of play. After
Almonte got the Anchorwomen on the board, the Huskies ran off five
straight goals, including three in a row by Knight before Albert and
Rodrigue found the net, to take a 7-1 lead midway through the half.
The Huskies led 8-2 at the break. |

Southern
Maine scored the first four goals of the second half to push the
advantage to 12-2 with 12:53 to play. The teams traded goals over
the next nine minutes to make the score 15-5. Freshman Kaitlyn
Oddy (Kennebunkport, Maine) got the final marker for USM
with 3:00 to play. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host
Nichols on Thursday, April 23. |
