FLEMING & JACKSON RECEIVE LITTLE EAST TRACK AWARDS

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College senior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) was named the Little East Conference Womenís Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, while Head Coach Kevin Jackson was tabbed as the Womenís Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Fleming, who was also named the LEC Womenís Indoor Field Athlete of the Year this past winter, followed up her All-American indoor campaign with an outstanding spring.

 

 

 

Fleming wrapped up the season at the NCAA Div. III Womenís Outdoor Track and Field Championships, placing 12th (1.59m) in the high jump, on May 23. She earned All-ECAC honors in the high jump, tying for fourth overall (1.67m) at the ECAC Championships on May 15. She earned All-NEICAAA honors in the high jump with a seventh place (1.59m) effort, while also contributing to a new program record in the 4x400m relay (4:05.22), at the NEICAAA Championships on May 9. Fleming earned All-New England honors in the high jump with a fifth place finish (1.58m) at the New England Div. III Championships on May 2. She was the New England Alliance Champion in the high jump (1.70m-new program record), the 800m (2:22.21) and as part of the 4x400m relay (4:12.03) at the Alliance Championships on April 25. Fleming also earned New England Alliance honors in the long jump, placing sixth (4.82m). She was named the teamís MVP this season.

 

 

 

Jackson, who was named the LEC Womenís Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year this past winter, helped lead RIC to a third place finish at the New England Alliance Championships with 111.5 points, and second in the Little East Conference Championships (157 pts.). Rhode Island College gained 19 total points and raised three positions in the regional team standings from the previous year.
