MARTINI WINS AT 157 LBS. AS ANCHORMEN TAKE FOURTH AT ROGER WILLIAMS INVITATIONAL
Six Anchormen Place in Season-Opening Meet

 

Bristol, RI—Rhode Island College senior Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) went undefeated at 157 lbs., going 5-0, to capture first place at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

 

 

 

The Anchormen placed fourth out of the 12-team field, totaling 115.5 points. Johnson & Wales (142.5), Messiah (140.5) and the hosts (120.0) edged RIC in the standings. Six RIC wrestlers, including two freshmen, placed at the meet.

 

 

 

Martini defeated Messiah’s Craig Ginn, 4-2, in the title match at 157 lbs. He totaled one pin, nine takedowns and four near-falls on the day.

Senior Nick Logan (Lowell, MA) placed second, falling to Johnson & Wales’ Bryan Lenhardt, 4-2, in the championship match at 184 lbs. He went 3-1 with two pins, five takedowns and one near-fall in four contests.

Freshman Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) was impressive in his collegiate debut, falling in the title bout, 1-0, to Southern Maine’s Steve Valastro at 141 lbs. He went 3-1 with six takedowns on the day.

Freshman Scott Legacy (Bennington, VT) placed third at 133 lbs., earning a 5-4 decision over Mike Testa from Johns Hopkins to close out the day. He went 4-1 with one pin, 10 takedowns and one near-fall in his first collegiate action.

Junior Ray Moore (Wrentham, MA) placed fourth at 197 lbs., going 4-2 with two pins and seven takedowns. Sophomore Travis Drappi (West Orange, NJ) placed fifth at 141 lbs., going 4-2 with one pin, eight takedowns and three near-falls.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host MIT on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at The Murray Center.
