JOHNSON’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS RIC PAST MANHATTANVILLE, 69-57
RIC Wins Season-Opener for Fourth Straight Season

 

Purchase, NY—Rhode Island College senior forward Kaseem Johnson (New Haven, CT) scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Anchormen downed Manhattanville, 69-57, in their first action of the 2008-09 season on Tuesday night.

The Anchormen trailed by four, 35-31, at the half, but outscored the Valiants by 16, 38-22, in the final stanza to win the game.

 

 

 

Johnson led three Anchormen in double figures as senior center Wil Lyons (Warwick, RI) and classmate guard Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY) chipped in with efforts of 12 and 11 points, respectively. Hill dished out eight assists and made five steals. Freshman guard Rob Bentil (East Hartford, CT) posted nine points, five boards and an assist in his collegiate debut.

 

 

Manhattanville drops to 1-2 on the season. Angelo Laroche led the Valiants with 15 points, while Lamar Glass pulled in 11 boards.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host WPI on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
