SCOTT LEGACY NAMED NEWA ROOKIE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

 

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College freshman 133 lbs. Scott Legacy (Bennington, VT) was named the New England Wrestling Associationís (NEWA) Rookie Wrestler of the Week for his performance vs. MIT on Nov. 19 and at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 22.

Legacy went 5-1 last week, opening with a pin (5:42) vs. MITís Greg Wellman at in the Anchormenís, 42-10, victory over the Engineers on Nov. 19. He followed that up with a third place finish at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 22, earning a 9-5 decision over Bryan Conrad from Coast Guard to close out the day. He went 4-1 with two pins at the tourney, raising his overall record to 9-2 to go along with four pins, 19 takedowns, three reversals and six near-falls. Legacy is currently ranked No. 2 in N.E.

 

RIC has had a wrestler receive the NEWAís Rookie of the Week Award in each of the past two reports (Mike Trasso, Nov. 17).

 

Head Coach Jay Jonesí team is 1-0 overall, 1-0 against NEWA competition and 1-0 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League. The Anchormen will travel to Plymouth State on Wednesday, Dec. 3, before heading to the RIT Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 6.
