Logan Leads Three RIC Grapplers
at Wilkes Invitational

Wilkes Barre, PA—Rhode Island College senior Nick Logan (Lowell, MA) went 4-2 and picked up his team-leading ninth pin of the season at the Wilkes Open Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 28. Sophomore Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) and freshman Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA) also took part in the meet, which showcased many of the top Div. I, II and III wrestlers in the nation.

 

 

 Senior Nick Logan

 

Logan earned victories at 184 lbs. over Div. I wrestlers Chris Orzechowski from Rutgers and Pittsburgh’s Brock Mantella to raise his overall record to 16-4 on the season. He has totaled 25 takedowns, four reversals and eight near-falls on the campaign.

 

 

 Sophomore Kevin Sutherland

 

Sutherland went 1-2 at 149 lbs. to raise his season mark to 16-7 to go along with 31 takedowns, three reversals and eight near-falls.

 

 

 Freshman Brandon Gauthier

 

Gauthier went 1-1 at 125 lbs. before an injury halted his action. He is now 10-9 with five pins, 22 takedowns, four reversals and nine near-falls.

 

In upcoming action, Head Coach Jay Jones’ team resumes competition at the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming, on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9-10. RIC is 2-0 overall, 2-0 against New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) opponents and 1-0 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League.
