WOMENíS GYMNASTICS OPENS SEASON WITH FIFTH PLACE FINISH AT MIT INVITATIONAL

 

Cambridge, MAóThe Rhode Island College womenís gymnastics team opened the 2008-09 season with a fifth place finish and a team score of 167.200 at the MIT Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Div. I Yale took first with a score of 182.800.

 

 

 

Ursinus (180.525), Cortland State (177.625), MIT (174.575) and Wilson (139.950) rounded out the six-team meet.

 

 

 

The Anchorwomen posted scores of 43.200 on vault, 37.550 on bars, 43.750 on beam and 42.700 on floor.

 

 

 

Junior Liz Glunt (Altoona, PA) and sophomore Julie Pitkin (Lee, NH) were RICís lone all-arounders, posting scores of 33.200 and 32.875, respectively.

 

 

 

Pitkin led RIC on vault with a score of 8.875, while freshman Angela Gargano (Stanhope, NJ) posted a mark of 8.725.

 

 

Freshman Casey Lesieur (Coventry, RI) led the Anchorwomen on bars with a score of 8.500, while sophomore Robyn Albert (Sharon, MA) was second with a score of 7.950.

Lesieur was tops on the club on floor (8.950), while Glunt and freshman Jen McCullough (Lowell, MA) logged scores of 8.750.

 

Glunt posted the teamís best floor score (8.950), while Lesieur was slightly off the pace (8.900).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face West Chester in its home opener on Friday, Jan. 16 at The Murray Center.
