LEGACY NAMED N.E. ROOKIE
WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Kingston, RI-The New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) has named Rhode Island College freshman 133 lbs. Scott Legacy (Bennington, VT) as its Rookie of the Week. It is the fourth time this season he has received this honor, in addition to earning Pilgrim Wrestling League rookie awards on two occasions.

Legacy went 2-0 with two big pins to lead the Anchormen to a sweep of Southern Maine and Roger Williams in Pilgrim League action on Saturday, Feb. 7. He scored a come-from-behind win over the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class, USMís Steve Valastro. Despite being down, 8-0, with only 37 seconds left in the match, Legacy turned the senior for a win by fall. He is the second-ranked wrestler in N.E. in his weight class and is currently 26-9 to go along with 46 takedowns, nine reversals, 19 near-falls and a team-high 13 pins. The New England individual rankings come out later today.

 

Head Coach Jay Jonesí team is currently ranked third in New England. RIC is 16-5-1 overall, 11-2-1 against NEWA competition and 3-1 in the Pilgrim League.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will travel to Bridgewater State for a tri-meet with Trinity on Saturday, Feb. 14 to close out the regular season.
