Anchorwomen Down Wilson, 176.850-127.600

            Providence, RIóRhode Island College posted a 176.850 team score, the highest total for the womenís gymnastics team in three years, as RIC rolled over Wilson at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon. As a team, Rhode Island College gymnasts posted 13 season-high marks in the win.

RICís effort was the best mark since Mar. 25, 2006 when the Anchorwomen logged a 178.925 team score at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. Rhode Island College improves to 1-8 overall and 1-4 vs. ECAC Div. III competition.


The hosts posted a 44.925 vault score, 42.300 on bars, 44.300 on beam and 45.325 on floor, while the visitors countered with marks of 33.550, 19.250, 32.400 and 42.400.


Freshman Casey Lesieur (Coventry, RI) posted career-high marks, finishing first on bars (8.950), beam (9.450), floor (9.550) and in the all-around (36.925). Sophomore Julie Pitkin (Lee, NH) placed first on vault (9.225) with a career-high score, while placing second on beam (9.250) and in the all-around (35.475) with additional personal bests. Junior Liz Glunt (Altoona, PA) took second on floor (9.525) with a career-high score and finished third in the all-around (34.175).

Senior Nicole Tomaselli (Cranston, RI), who was honored along with classmate Megan Tkach (Holmdel, NJ) prior to the meet as part of Senior Day, posted career-high scores with second-place finishes on vault (9.125) and bars (8.650).

Wilson sophomore Samantha Vance (Winchester, VA) was the lone Phoenix in the top three on any event, placing third with a score of 9.375 on floor.


In other action, RIC freshmen Courtney Winsor (West Greenwich, RI) and Angela Gargano (Stanhope, NJ) took third on vault (9.025) and bars (8.300), respectively.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel Bridgeport on Sunday, Feb. 22.
