SUTHERLAND NAMED SCHOLAR
ALL-AMERICAN AS RIC WRESTLING
RANKS 24th IN THE NATION

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College sophomore 149 lbs. Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) and the Anchormen, as a team, ranked 24th in the nation with a 3.185 cumulative grade point average.

 

 

 

Sutherland was the New England Champion at 149 lbs. and advanced to the NCAA Div. III National Championships. He attained All-New England status for the second consecutive season, finishing with a 41-12 overall record to go along with one pin, 86 takedowns, seven reversals and 22 near-falls. Sutherland earned a third place finish at the Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 22) and a fourth place finish at the RIT Invitational (Dec. 6). He is a physical education and health major.

 

Head Coach Jay Jonesí team finished the season with a third place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships on Feb. 22. RIC posted a 17-6-1 overall record, a 12-3-1 record against NEWA competition and a 4-2 mark in the Pilgrim Wrestling League.
