Womenís Gymnastics Season Summary

Providence, RIóHead Coach Shannon Cornicelliís (Career record: 5-22, .186) team finished the 2008-09 season with a 2-10 overall record. RIC was 2-4 against Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III competition.

 

The Anchorwomen closed out the season with a seventh place (eight teams) finish, totaling a team score of 177.675, at the ECAC Div. III Championships, hosted by Ursinus on Mar. 7. RICís point total was its highest since the 2005-06 team posted a score of 178.925 at the ECACs.

 

RIC also had its first gymnast since 2006 qualify for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships.

 

 

 

Senior Megan Tkach (Holmdel, NJ) wrapped up her four-year career as an Anchorwoman. As a senior in 2008-09, Tkach averaged a score of 8.281 on floor. She registered a season-high mark of 8.525 on floor in a win over Wilson on Feb. 14.

 

As a junior in 2007-08, she averaged scores of 7.750 on vault, 7.993 on bars, and 8.350 on floor. She posted season-high marks with a 7.750 on vault at the M.I.T. quad-meet on Jan. 19, 8.050 on bars vs. Brockport/ Springfield on Jan. 26 and 8.600 on floor vs. Brown/URI on Feb. 3.

 

As a sophomore in 2006-07, Tkach averaged scores of 8.550 on vault, 7.578 on bars and 7.175 on floor. She registered season-high marks of 8.550 on vault at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 10, 7.900 on bars vs. Wilson on Mar. 4 and 8.200 on floor at the RIC Quad meet on Jan. 20.

 

As a freshman in 2005-06, she was a reserve on the team.

 

She is a biology major with a minor in psychology and a 2005 graduate of Holmdel High School.

 

Senior captain Nicole Tomaselli (Cranston, RI) closed out her four-year career as an Anchorwoman. As a senior in 2008-09, Tomaselli averaged scores of 8.725 on vault, 7.740 on bars, 7.450 on beam and 8.992 on floor. She posted season-high marks of 9.175 on vault vs. West Chester/Wilson on Mar. 1, 8.650 on bars vs. Wilson on Feb. 14, 7.450 on beam vs. West Chester on Jan. 16 and 9.075 on floor vs. Bridgeport on Feb. 21.

 

As a junior in 2007-08, she averaged scores of 8.523 on vault, 7.145 on bars, 7.805 on beam, 8.583 on floor and 32.055 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 8.950 on vault and 8.850 on beam at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 15, 8.300 on bars and 34.050 in the all-around vs. Wilson on Feb.23 and 8.950 on floor vs. Brown/M.I.T. on Jan. 13.

 

As a sophomore in 2006-07, Tomaselli was primarily a bars specialist, averaging a score of 6.530 on that event for the season. Tomaselli competed once in the all-around at the West Chester quad-meet on Jan. 14, recording scores of 8.450 on vault, 5.350 on bars, 7.525 on beam, 7.850 on floor and 29.175 in the all-around. She posted a season-high mark of 7.900 on bars vs. the University of Rhode Island on Feb. 2.

 

As a freshman in 2004-05, she averaged a score of 7.900 on vault. She recorded a season-high score of 7.950 on vault vs. West Chester on Mar. 12.

 

She is a psychology major and a 2004 graduate of Cranston High School West.

 

Junior Elizabeth Ann Glunt (Altoona, PA) averaged scores of 8.480 on vault, 7.569 on bars, 8.646 on beam, 8.885 on floor and 33.975 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 8.925 on vault, 8.325 on bars, 9.250 on beam and 35.650 in the all-around at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 7, as well as, a 9.525 mark on floor vs. Wilson on Feb. 14.

 

Junior Kelly Longo (Pembroke, MA) averaged a score of 8.117 on beam. She registered a season-high mark of 8.750 on beam vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut on Jan. 24.

 

Sophomore Julie Pitkin (Lee, NH) averaged scores of 9.080 on vault, 7.425 on bars, 8.815 on beam, 8.905 on floor and 34.225 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 9.350 on vault at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 7, 8.200 on bars and 35.475 in the all-around vs. Wilson on Feb. 14, 9.275 on beam against Bridgeport on Feb. 21 and 9.200 on floor three times, once in a quad meet including Southern Connecticut, MIT and SUNY Brockport on Feb. 7, once against Bridgeport on Feb. 21 and again at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 7. She led the squad on vault, while ranking second on beam and in the all-around.

 

Freshman Kate Bachelder (Portsmouth, NH) averaged scores of 8.350 on vault, 7.375 on bars, 8.417 on beam and 8.575 on floor. She posted season-high marks of 8.350 on vault vs. Bridgeport on Feb.1, 7.450 on bars and 8.850 on beam vs. West Chester on Jan. 16 and a 9.050 mark on floor vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut on Jan. 24.

 

Freshman Alyssa Bremner (Ramona, CA) was a reserve on the team.

 

Freshman Sarah Chrane (Rochester, NH) averaged scores of 8.425 on vault and 8.950 on floor. She posted season-high marks with an 8.425 on vault and 9.150 on floor vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut on Jan. 24.

 

Freshman Angela Gargano (Stanhope, NJ) averaged scores of 8.863 on vault, 7.698 on bars and 8.214 on floor. She posted season-high marks with a 9.275 on vault at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 7 and 8.300 on bars and 8.675 on floor vs. Wilson on Feb. 14.

 

Freshman Jessica Greenwald (Union, NJ) averaged scores of 8.938 on vault, 7.929 on bars and 8.567 on beam. She posted season-high marks with a 9.125 on vault vs. West Chester/Wilson on Mar. 1, 8.075 on bars at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 7 and 9.075 on beam vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut on Jan. 24.

 

Freshman Alana Henderson (Reston, VA) averaged scores of 8.617 on vault and 8.738 on floor. She posted season-high marks with an 8.800 on vault vs. West Chester on Jan. 16 and 9.000 on floor vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut on Jan. 24.

 

Freshman Casey Lesieur (Coventry, RI) was named the teamís MVP. Lesieur averaged scores of 9.033 on vault, 8.570 on bars, 8.958 on beam, 9.155 on floor and 35.753 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 9.350 on vault, 9.075 on bars and 37.000 in the all-around at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 7 and 9.450 on beam and 9.550 on floor vs. Wilson on Feb. 14. Lesieur led the team on bars, beam, floor and the all-around, while ranking second on vault.

 

She was named the ECAC Freshman of the Week twice and was tabbed ECAC Rookie Gymnast of the Year. Lesieur was also RICís lone qualifier to the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships as an all-around specialist from the East Region.

 

At the NCGAs, Lesieur posted scores of 9.175 on vault (41st place tie), 7.300 on bars (56th place), 8.400 on beam (48th place tie), 9.150 on floor (43rd place tie) for an all-around total of 34.025 (22nd place).

 

Freshman Jen McCullough (Lowell, MA) averaged a score of 8.460 on beam. She registered a season-high mark of 9.150 on beam vs. MIT on Jan. 31.

 

Freshman Kassia Mikiewicz (Barrington, NH) averaged a score of 8.325 on beam. She registered a season-high mark of 8.850 on beam vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut on Jan. 24.

 

Freshman Courtney Winsor (West Greenwich, RI) averaged scores of 8.940 on vault, 8.007 on bars, 8.233 on beam, 8.494 on floor and 33.800 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 9.200 on vault and 8.900 on bars at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 7, 8.250 on bars vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut on Jan. 24, 8.600 on floor twice, once vs. Bridgeport on Feb. 21 and again vs. West Chester/Wilson on Mar. 1. Her 33.800 all-around scores vs. West Chester/Wilson on Mar. 1 was also a season high. She ranked second on the squad on bars.
