2008-09 Rhode Island College
Menís Indoor Track & Field Summary

Providence, RIóHead Coach Kevin Jacksonís team wrapped up the 2008-09 menís indoor track and field season with one competitor seeing action at the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships, hosted by Tufts on March 6-7. RIC placed 43rd (50 teams) with a team score of 4.0.

 

 

 

The Anchormen earned a 30th place finish (34 teams) with a team score of 3.0 at the 2009 N.E. Open Championships, hosted by Boston University, on Feb. 27-28.

 

Rhode Island College finished 19th overall (24 teams) with 8.0 points at the N.E. Div. III Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 20-21.

 

The Anchormen placed seventh overall (10 teams) with 27.0 points and fifth (six teams) in the Little East Conference with 39.0 points at the 2009 Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 14.

 

Senior Dante Lopardo (Johnston, RI) was named the teamís MVP. He earned All-ECAC honors with a fifth place, season-best/new program record 1.99m, effort in the high jump at the ECAC Championships on March 7. Lopardo placed sixth in the high jump (1.94m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 28. He earned All-New England honors in both the high and long jumps at the N.E. Div. III Championships by placing third in the high jump (1.92m) and seventh in the long jump with a season-best jump of 6.51m. Lopardo earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the high jump with his first place, 1.92m effort, and the long jump with a fourth place (6.38m) finish. He also placed ninth and established a new program record and season-best in the triple jump (12.94m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Lopardo placed third in the long jump (6.30m), eighth in the triple jump (12.48m), and first in the high jump (1.91m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed 25th in the long jump (5.73m) and first in the high jump (1.94m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Lopardo placed first in the high jump (1.92m), fifth in the long jump (6.07m) and fifth in the triple jump (11.91m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 10th in the high jump (1.85m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. Lopardo placed first in the high jump (1.92m) and third in the long jump (6.12m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

As a junior in 2007-08, Lopardo was named the teamís MVP. He earned All-New England honors in the high and long jumps, placing sixth and eighth with efforts of 1.87m and 6.42m, respectively, at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 23. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the high and long jumps, placing sixth and third with efforts of 1.80m and a school-record 6.55m, respectively, at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. Lopardo placed 16th in the high jump with a season-best leap of 1.88m at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. He placed sixth in the high jump (1.84m), 14th in the long jump (5.42m) and third in the triple jump (12.54m) at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 1. Lopardo placed sixth in the high jump (1.81m), 12th in the long jump (5.87m) and sixth in the triple jump (12.44m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. He placed fourth in the high jump (1.86m), second in the long jump (6.02m) and placed sixth in the triple jump (11.75m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. Lopardo placed eighth in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters and 12th in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 12.67m at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. He placed eighth in the high jump with a 1.82m effort and 22nd in the triple jump with a leap of 11.30 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

As a sophomore in 2006-07, Lopardo competed at the Community College of Rhode Island.

 

As a freshman in 2004-05, Lopardo competed at the Community College of Rhode Island. He took first place in the high jump and third in the triple jump at the indoor conference championships.

 

Lopardo is a history major and a 2003 graduate of Johnston High School.

 

Senior James Polak (Smithfield, RI) placed 15th in the weight throw (11.02m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed fourth in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 11.73m at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. Polak placed ninth in the weight throw (11.28m) at the URI Invitational on Jan. 30. He placed seventh in the weight throw (11.68m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Polak placed third in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 11.73m at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 13th in the weight throw (11.20m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. Polak placed eighth in the weight throw (11.50m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

As a junior in 2007-08, Polak placed 14th in the weight throw (11.86m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. He placed 61st in the weight throw (11.37m) at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Polak placed ninth in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 12.34m at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 1. He placed 10th in the weight throw (11.87m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 26. Polak placed sixth in the weight throw (11.93m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. He placed 20th in the weight throw (11.69m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12.

 

As a sophomore in 2006-07, Polak earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing eighth with a season-best distance of 13.09m at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. Polak placed eighth in the weight throw with a throw of 13.06 meters at the URI. Mega Meet on Feb. 2. He placed fifth in the weight throw with a throw of 12.36m at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. Polak placed 11th in the weight throw with a throw of 11.99 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 20. He placed seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 12.27m at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 13. Polak placed 22nd in the weight throw with a throw of 11.40m at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. He placed seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 11.74m at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

As a freshman in 2005-06, Polak placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 11.95m at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He placed 18th in the weight throw with a distance of 10.95m at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 4. Polak placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 11.54m at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed 13th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.82m at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. Polak placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 11.57m at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed 10th in the weight throw with a distance of 10.74m at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Polak is a criminal justice major with a minor in psychology and a 2004 graduate of Smithfield High School.

 

Senior Hunter Stewart (Foster, RI) placed 27th in the 500m with a time of 1:07.86 at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 28. He placed 14th in the 600m with a time of 1:25.69 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 21. Stewart earned All-Alliance/Little East honors, placing second in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:24.26 and sixth in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:40.54 at the Alliance Championships on Feb.14. He placed first in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:02.31 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. Stewart placed third in the 500m with a time of 1:08.01 at the URI Invitational on Jan. 30. He placed 21st in 200m with a season-best time of 24.40 and eighth in the 400m with a season-best time of 53.05 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Stewart placed first in the 600m with a time 1:24.84 and third 4x400m relay with a time of 3:44.24 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed fifth in the 500m with a season-best time of 1:07.51 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. Stewart placed first in the 600m with a time of 1:25.41 and first in the distance medley with a season-best time of 11:17.36 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

As a junior in 2007-08, Stewart placed ninth in the 500m with a time of 1:06.99 at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 8. He placed 18th in the 500m with a season-best time of 1:06.64 at the N.E. Open Championships on Mar. 1. Stewart placed 21st in the 600m with a time of 1:26.85 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 23. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 600m , placing fifth a season-best time of 1:25.79 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. Stewart placed 35th in the 500m with a time of 1:07.09 at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. He placed eighth in the 800m with a time of 2:02.12 at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 1. Stewart placed first in the 500m with a time of 1:09.61 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. He placed second in the 600m with a time of 1:26.77 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. Stewart placed 17th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:01.78 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. He placed 39th in the 800m with a time of 2:06.80 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. Stewart placed 30th in the 500m with a time of 1:09.50 at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

Stewart competed at the Community College of Rhode Island as a freshman and sophomore from 2005-07.

 

Stewart is an English major and a 2005 graduate of Ponaganset High School.

 

Junior Kyle Duguay (Cumberland, RI) placed 11th in the 55m with a time of 6.89 and sixth in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:40.54 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed 10th in the 55m with a season-best time of 6.84 while at the URI Invitational on Jan. 30. Duguay placed 11th in the 55m with a time of 6.88 and 17th in the 200m with a time of 24.24 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed second in the 55m with a time of 6.88, second in the 200m with a time of 24.31, fourth in the 400m with a season-best time of 54.28 and third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:44.24 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 31st in the 200m with a season-best time of 23.87 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed 18th in the 200m with a time of 24.53 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Junior Chris Farrell (Cumberland, RI) placed 33rd in the 3,000m with a time of 10:35.97 while at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed seventh in the 3,000m with a time of 10:40.07 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed 34th in the one mile run with a season-best time of 5:27.62 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed 29th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 10:19.43 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13.

 

Junior Kwame Gyampo (Providence, RI) placed 23rd in the 55m with a season-best time of 7.03, 28th in the 200m with a time of 24.82 and sixth in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:40.54 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed 11th in the 55m with a time of 7.14 and 20th in the 200m with a time of 25.04 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. Gyampo placed 16th in the 55m with a time of 7.08 and 17th in the 200m with a season-best time of 24.71 at the URI Invitational on Jan. 30. He placed 30th in the 55m with a time of 7.12 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Gyampo placed fourth in the 55m with a season-best time of 7.03 and fifth in the 200m with a time of 25.02 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 62nd in the 200m with a time of 25.11 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. Gyampo placed 29th in the 200m with a time of 25.76 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Adilson Alves (Central Falls, RI) placed 25th in the 400m with a season-best time of 54.64 and sixth in the 4x400 meter relay with a season-best time of 3:40.54 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.

 

Sophomore Mike Macedo (North Scituate, RI) placed 15th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 9:30.65 and placed eighth in the 4x800m with a season-best time of 9:09.67 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed eighth in the 5,000m run with a time of 16:59.30 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed sixth in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 16:34.58 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed fifth in the 3,000m with a time of 9:41.97 and fifth in the 4x800m with a time of 9:41.66 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed sixth in the 3,000m with a time of 10:06.45 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Andrew Augustus (Bristol, RI) placed 16th in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:32.79 while at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.  He placed fifth in the 600m with a time of 1:32.81 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. Augustus placed 25th in the 600m with a time of 1:35.48 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed 11th in the 400m with a season-best time of 56.19 and fifth in the 4x800m with a season-best time of 9:41.66 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Augustus placed 45th in the one mile run with a season-best time of 5:08.08 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed tenth in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:20.77 while at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Pat Brassil (Wakefield, RI) placed 22nd in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:28.21 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed 14th in the 400m with a season-best time of 1:03.21 and fifth in the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 9:41.66 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Brassil placed 42nd in the one mile run with a season-best time of 5:04.57 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed 15th in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:45.74 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Andy Danesi (Johnston, RI) placed eighth in the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 9:09.67 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed 11th in the 800m with a time of 2:08.26 at the URI Invitational on Jan. 30. Danesi placed 12th in the 800m with a time of 2:09.36 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed seventh in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 2:48.62 and fifth in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:41.66 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Danesi placed 12th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:03.16 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:06.37 and first in the distance medley with a season-best time of 11:17.36 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Ethan Leary (Newport, RI) placed 14th in the one mile run with a time of 4:42.94 and placed eighth in the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 9:09.67 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed seventh in the one mile run with a season-best time of 4:42.58 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. Leary placed 10th in the 400m with a season-best time of 58.73 at the URI Invitational on Jan. 30. He placed 23rd in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:32.85 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Leary placed seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:08.49 and third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:44.24 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed fourth in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:06.72 and first in the distance medley with a season-best time of 11:17.36 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Kyle Mann (West Warwick, RI) placed ninth in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 2.44.87 and placed eighth in the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 9:09.67 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed ninth in the 1,000m with a time of 2:46.21 at the URI Invitational on Jan. 30. Mann placed 13th in the 1,000m with a time of 2:50.20 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24.  He placed fourth in the one mile run with a season-best time of 4:57.46 and third in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:44.24 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Mann placed 26th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:06.85 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed fourth in the 1,000m with a time of 2:48.98 and first in the distance medley with a season-best time of 11:17.36 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Chris Usler (Warwick, RI) placed 31st in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 11:21.81 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13.
