BOYER NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
AS VOLLEYBALL OPENS 2009 CAMPAIGN

 

Weston, MA—Freshman outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball squad opened the 2009 season with a 4-2 mark at the Regis College Invitational on Sept. 5-6.

Boyer played in 17 games in each of the club’s six matches. She totaled 55 kills, a .265 hitting percentage, three service aces, 43 digs and three blocks.

 

 

 

 RIC opened competition with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-16) win over Salem State (0-1). Senior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) and freshman middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) paced RIC offensively with nine and five kills, respectively. Freshman setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) handed out 15 assists. Archer swatted away three attempts, while junior opposite April Oberhelman (Woonsocket, RI) logged nine digs.

 

 

 

Rhode Island College downed Worcester State (0-1), 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) in the day’s middle bout. Boyer paced RIC with 10 kills, while Corriveau and junior outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) each had three winners. Ho registered nine assists, Boyer posted five digs and senior middle blocker Kristen Johnson (East Providence, RI) recorded five blocks.

 

 

 

The Anchorwomen ended day one with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19) victory over Regis (0-3). Corriveau reach double digits in kills with 10, while Boyer was one off the pace. Ho dished out a 29 assists, Corriveau logged 11 digs and Johnson had five swats. Archer dominated from the service line with six aces.

 

Rhode Island College improved to 4-0 at the tourney with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 20-25, 25-15) victory over St. Joseph’s (ME) (3-3) to begin the second day of action on Sept. 6. Corriveau and Boyer led RIC with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Ho set up 29 winners and Corriveau made 15 digs. Archer was a force at the net with eight blocks.

 

The Anchorwomen ended the day with back-to-back losses to WPI (6-0) and Norwich (5-2). RIC was swept in both matches falling (16-25, 11-25, 20-25) to the Engineers and (15-25, 23-25, 17-25) to the Cadets. Boyer and Archer each had eight kills against WPI and Boyer posted 12 winners against Norwich.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face MIT in its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at The Murray Center starting at 7 p.m.
