MAY LEADS ENGINEERS PAST ANCHORWOMEN

 

Providence, RIóFreshman outside hitter Alex May (Des Moines, IA) posted a match-high 12 kills and recorded eight digs as MIT defeated Rhode Island College, 3-0, in collegiate womenís volleyball action on Tuesday evening at The Murray Center.

 

 

 

MIT (4-0) took the first and second sets, 20-19, and held off a late Anchorwomen rally to win the final frame, 25- 22.

 

 

 

Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Schulte (Riverside, CA) was also an offensive threat with eight kills. Freshman outside hitter Trinity Leonard (Mill Valley, CA) and senior middle hitter Barden Cleeland (Irvine, CA) each contributed seven winners. Freshman setter Alyssa Rothman (Plainview, NY) handed out a match-high 38 assists and logged 11 digs. Senior defensive specialist Cathy Melnikow (Yorkville, NY) registered five service aces.

 

 

 

RIC (4-3) freshman middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) led the hosts with eight kills. Senior middle blocker Kristen Johnson (East Providence, RI) and freshman outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) chipped in with six winners apiece. Boyer and senior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) each recorded 10 digs. Freshman setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) handed out 17 assists.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will take part in the Brandeis Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11-12.
