VIKINGS HAND ANCHORWOMEN FIRST LOSS

 

Providence, RIóSalem State defeated Rhode Island College, 6-3, in the Little East Conference womenís tennis opener for both clubs. The Anchorwomen (4-1, 0-1) suffer their first loss of the 2009 campaign, while the Vikings (2-1, 1-0) win for the second consecutive match.

 

 

 

Salem State senior Megan Cote (Fall River, MA) picked up a straight set (6-0, 6-4) win at No. 1 singles and teamed with junior Jessica Distler (Pepperell, MA) to earn a win (8-6) at the top doubles spot.

 

 

 

Junior Alicia Poore (Stoneham, MA) and sophomore Carly Muniz (Gloucester, MA) won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and also won in doubles action.

 

 

 

The Vikings swept all three doubles matches, while earning a split with the Anchorwomen through the six singles bouts. RIC won the fourth-sixth flights with sophomore Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI) and freshmen Marissa Langellier (Greenville, RI) and Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) picking up wins.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
