COLONIALS EDGE ANCHORWOMEN, 5-4, IN
LITTLE EAST TENNIS ACTION

 

Danbury, CT—Western Connecticut snuck by Rhode Island College, 5-4, in Little East Conference women’s tennis action on Tuesday afternoon. The hosts improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the LEC, while the Anchorwomen drop to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in league action.

 

 

 

The two clubs battled to a 3-3 tie after the first six singles matches. Sophomore Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI), freshman Marissa Langellier (Greenville, RI) and freshman Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) won at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles for the visitors. Batek came from behind (2-6, 6-1, 6-2), while the rookies each won in straight sets (6-4, 6-1; 6-3, 6-3).

Langellier and Belanger combined for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles, while the club’s loss at No. 2 doubles decided the match for the Colonials.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at home against Southern Maine on Saturday, Sept. 26.
