LANGELLIER & BELANGER HELP RIC
WOMEN’S TENNIS EARN FIRST LEC WIN

 

Providence, RI—The Rhode Island College women’s tennis team stopped a two-match losing streak and earned their first Little East Conference win of the season in a 5-4 decision over Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.

 

 

 

The hosts improve to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the LEC, while the visitors drop to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in league action.

 

 

 

 

 

 Freshman Marissa Langellier

 

 

 

The tandem of freshmen Marissa Langellier (Greenville, RI) and Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) played a pivotal role in the close win. The duo helped RIC avoid being swept in doubles by picking up a 9-7 win at the third spot.

USM sophomore Katelyn Oullette (Lewiston, ME) and freshman Tegan Talbot (Topsham, ME) combined to win at No. 1 doubles (9-7) and then won the only singles matches for the Huskies at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

 

 

 

RIC senior Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) won a hard-fought match (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) with USM freshman Kristine Brammer (Littleton, NH) at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI), Langellier and Belanger won from No. 4 through No. 6 for the fourth straight match.

 

 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Wesleyan tomorrow afternoon.
