REBELLO WINS LONE MATCH AS MENíS TENNIS FALLS, 8-1, AT BRIDGEWATER STATE

 

Bridgewater, MA-Junior captain Nate Rebello (Pawtucket, RI) won a straight set decision (6-2, 6-2) at No. 2 singles, but it was the lone highlight as the Rhode Island College menís tennis team wrapped up the regular season in an 8-1 loss to Bridgewater State.

 

 

 

Bridgewater ends the 2010 regular season with a record of 8-6, including a 4-2 mark in the Little East. RIC drops to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Bears will be the third in seed in next weekís Little East Tournament, while the Anchormen are seeded fourth. Tournament pairings will be announced on Sunday.

Freshman Matt Mailhot (Oxford, MA) paced the host Bears as he came away with a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at No. 1 singles and teamed with sophomore Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) for an 8-6 victory at top flight doubles. Mailhot and Zagame are a perfect 6-0 in doubles play this season versus Little East opponents.

 

 

The Bears won five of the six singles flight and all three doubles matches.

 

Junior Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) improved to 9-3 overall in singles play and 5-0 against Little East teams as he bounced back from a set down to win (6-7, 7-6, 10-8) at No. 5.

 

The loss for RIC snapped a four-match winning streak, which included three Little East wins.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will a first round match of the 2010 Little East Conference Menís Tournament on Tuesday, May 4 at 3 p.m.
