Menís Tennis Summary

 

Providence, RIóFirst-year Head Coach Lorne Teeter's (Career record: 6-9, .400) team finished the 2010 season with a 6-9 overall record, a dramatic improvement from last seasonís 2-13 mark. The Anchormen were 3-3 (fourth place) in the Little East Conference.

 

 

 

RIC ended the season in a 5-3 loss to Southern Maine in quarterfinal action of the 2010 Little East Conference Menís Tennis Tournament Championship.

 

Senior Garrett Smith (Exeter, RI) closed out his career as an Anchorman with a 13-28 (.317) singles and 7-33 (.175) doubles record for 16.5 career points.

 

As a senior in 2010, he was 5-8 (.385) at No. 4 singles and 5-10 (.333) at No. 3 doubles for 7.5 points.

 

As a junior 2009, Smith was 5-8 (.385) at No. 5 singles and 1-12 (.077) at No. 3 doubles for a total of 5.5 points. He was tied for the team lead in singles victories. Smith was named the team MVP.

 

As a sophomore in 2007, he was 3-12 (.200) at No. 3 singles and 0-3 (.000) in doubles for 3.0 points on the season.

 

As a freshman in 2006, Smith was 1-8 (.111) at No. 1 doubles for 0.5 points on the season.

 

He is a finance major and a 2003 graduate of Exeter-West Greenwich High School.

 

Junior Mike Aiello (Scituate, RI) was named Second Team All-Little East at No. 3 singles. Aiello was 5-10 (.333) at No. 3 singles and 10-5 (.667) at No. 2 doubles for 10.0 points on the season. The 10 doubles wins were the second-most in a season in program history.

 

Junior co-captain Matt Allard (Harrisville, RI) was 4-8 (.333) at No. 5 singles and 3-9 (.250) at No. 1 doubles for 5.5 points.

 

Junior co-captain Nate Rebello (Pawtucket, RI) was named First Team All-Little East at No. 2 singles and team MVP. He was 12-3 (.800) at No. 2 singles and 10-5 (.667) at No. 2 doubles for 17.0 points on the season. His 17.0 points, 12 singles victories and 10 doubles wins were the second-most in a season in program history.

 

Sophomore Jason Morin (East Providence, RI) was a reserve on the team.

 

Sophomore Mike Ricci (Cranston, RI) was 0-6 (.000) at No. 1 doubles.

 

Freshman Jack Adamo (Warwick, RI) was 2-4 (.333) at No. 5 and 6 singles for 2.0 points.

 

Freshman Matt Collins (Rumford, RI) was 1-0 (1.000) at No. 6 singles for 1.0 point.

 

Freshman Tigran Gasparyan (Smithfield, RI) was 2-13 (.133) at No. 1 singles and 2-13 (.133) at No. 1 doubles for 3.0 points.

 

Freshman Brian Gil (North Providence, RI) was a reserve on the team.

 

Freshman Nate Lee (Bar Harbor, ME) was named First Team All-Little East at No. 6 singles. Lee was 8-4 (.667) at No. 6 singles and 4-8 (.333) at primarily No. 3 doubles for 10.0 points.
