2009-10 Rhode Island College
Menís Golf Season Summary

 

Providence, RIóHead Coach Greg Gammellís (Career record: 25-8, .758) finished the 2009-10 season with three first place victories.

 

 

 

Rhode Island College placed second (seven teams) with a score of 648 at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference/Little East Conference Alliance Championship on Oct. 24-25.

 

The Anchormen placed 19th (39 teams) with a score of 640 at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships on Oct. 19-20.

 

Rhode Island College earned first place finishes at Johnson & Wales (Oct. 2), the RIC Fall Invitational (Oct. 9), and at the RIC Spring Invitational (April 23).

 

Senior Barrett Kern (Pawtucket, RI) competed in 10 contests this season and averaged a score of 84.3. He competed in six matches in the fall, averaging a score of 83.6, while averaging an 85.2 in four contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 77 at the RIC Invitational on Oct. 9.

 

As a junior in 2008-09, Kern competed in eight contests and averaged a score of 86.4. He competed in five matches in the fall, averaging a score of 86.4, while averaging an 86.3 in three contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 79 at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Sept. 19.

 

As a sophomore in 2007-08, he saw action in six fall contests and averaged a score of 81.9. He shot a season-low score of 75 twice, once at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Sept. 21 and again against Brandeis on Oct. 17.

 

As a freshman in 2006-07, Kern saw action in 12 contests, averaging a score of 84.0. He saw action in five meets in the fall, averaging a score of 82.2, while posting a 95.1 mark in seven contests in the spring. He shot a season-low score of 73 at Newbury on Sept. 22.

 

He is a BFA sculpture major and a 2004 graduate of St. Raphael Academy.

 

Junior Derek Jensen (Cumberland, RI) was named All-Little East/GNAC. He competed in six matches in the fall, averaging a score of 79.9. He shot a season-low score of 74 at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Oct. 2.

 

Junior Chad Lareau (North Attleboro, MA) competed in seven matches in the fall, averaging a score of 80.6. He shot a season-low score of 75 at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Oct. 2.

 

Junior Bryan Picinisco (Dartmouth, MA) was named All-Little East/GNAC and team MVP. He competed in 12 contests this season and averaged a score of 81.3. He competed in six matches in the fall, averaging a score of 78.9, while averaging an 83.4 in all six contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 74 at the RIC Invitational on Oct. 9.

 

Junior Steve Zahn (West Warwick, RI) competed in five contests this season and averaged a score of 89.3. He competed in two matches in the fall and averaged a score of 89.0, while averaging a score of 89.5 in three contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 83 during second round play at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Apr. 18.

 

Freshman George Bissell (Chepachet, RI) competed in one match in the spring, averaging a score of 88.0 during the two-day event. He shot a season-low score of 85 during the second round at the Anchorman Invitational on Apr. 3.

 

Freshman Justin Coffey (Hopedale, MA) competed in seven contests this season and averaged a score of 86.4. He competed in four matches in the fall and averaged a score of 84.0, while averaging a score of 88.8 in three contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 82 at the RIC Invitational on Oct. 9.

 

Freshman Brian Fitzgerald (Mansfield, MA) competed in two contests this season and averaged a score of 95.5. He competed in one match in the fall and shot a 95, while shooting a 96 in one contest during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 95 at the Mitchell College Quad on Oct. 14.

 

Freshman Kyle Garcia (Rehoboth, MA) competed in seven contests this season and averaged a score of 83.0. He competed in two matches in the fall and averaged a score of 84.0, while averaging a score of 82.8 in five contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 75 during the first round at the Worcester State Invitational on Apr. 20.

 

Freshman Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) was named the Little East/GNAC Alliance Rookie of the Year and to the leagueís All-Rookie Team. Harper competed in 11 contests this season and averaged a score of 82.5. He competed in seven matches in the fall and averaged a score of 81.4, while averaging a score of 84.2 in four contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 77 during the second round at the Anchorman Invitational on Apr. 3.

 

Freshman Joseph Quinn (Dedham, MA) competed in six contests this season and averaged a score of 87.1. He competed in three matches in the fall and averaged a score of 90.7, while averaging a score of 85.0 in three contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 77 during the second round at the Johnson & Wales Invitational on Apr. 18.
