Providence, R.I.-Moravian sophomore pitcher Jenna Carmon (Flemington, NJ) fired a five-hit shutout with four strikeouts to lead the second-seeded Greyhounds past fourth-seeded Wesleyan, 6-0, in game six at the Providence Regional of the 2010 NCAA Div. III Softball Tournament hosted by Rhode Island College.


Carmon (23-9) is unbeaten in two contests so far at the regional, allowing only seven hits and hurling 14 innings of scoreless softball. She also went 2-for-4 from the dish with a run scored and an RBI in today’s victory.


Moravian (32-12) advances to play tomorrow at noon, while the Cardinals (24-17-1) are forced to play an elimination game with top-seeded The College of New Jersey at 2:30 p.m.


The Greyhounds jumped out to a lead in the second inning and never looked back, tagging Wesleyan senior starter Meaghan Dendy (Swansea, MA) for four runs on four hits. Carmon got the offense moving with an RBI triple down the left field line. Junior left fielder Maura Agnew (Doylestown, PA) ripped an RBI single and sophomore center fielder Olivia Evanko (Nazareth, PA) brought in a pair with an RBI single to right field.


In the fourth, MC freshman first baseman Amanda Dizinno (Budd Lake, NJ) hit an RBI single to bring in Evanko, who had walked and moved up to second on a ground out. Freshman shortstop Katie Gross (Allentown, PA) tripled in another an inning later to help Moravian to a 6-0 advantage.


Moravian freshman second baseman Rebekah Battersby (Dingmans Ferry, PA) and Gross played outstanding defense in the middle infield as the pair turned in two twin killings. Battersby also made a couple of diving plays to record ground outs.


Gross went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Dizinno went 2-for-4 with an RBI and freshman designated player Samantha Mulderig (Sewell, NJ) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.


Dendy took the loss (9-9) for Wesleyan.
