2010 Rhode Island College
Womenís Outdoor Track & Field Season Summary

 

Providence, RIóHead Coach Kevin Jacksonís team wrapped up the 2010 womenís outdoor track and field season with two competitors seeing action at the 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships, hosted by Springfield College on May 13-14. RIC finished tied for 48 overall (51 teams) with 1.0 point.

 

The Anchorwomen did not score at the 2010 N.E. Open Championships, hosted by Northeastern University, on May 7-8.

 

Rhode Island College tied for 25th  overall (31 teams) with a score of 3.0 at the N.E. Div. III Championships, hosted by Tufts University on May 1.

 

The Anchorwomen placed ninth overall (11 teams) with 24.0 points and fifth (five teams) in the Little East Conference with 24.0 points at the 2010 Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on April 24.

 

 

 

Senior Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) closed out her four-year career as an Anchorwoman, but did not compete this spring.

 

As a junior in 2009, she placed 10th in the hammer with a season-best effort (42.88m) and placed 16th in the discus with a season-best performance (32.68m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 2. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in the hammer and discus, placing third (42.07m) and fourth (32.46m), respectively, at the Alliance Championships on April 25. Bucci placed second in the hammer (37.44m), first in the shot with a season-best distance (10.24m) and first in the discus (28.06m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on April 11. She placed fourth in the shot (9.66m), sixth in the discus (30.33m) and second in the hammer (41.00m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4. Bucci placed third in the hammer with a throw of 40.95m, 14th in the shot with a throw of 9.74m and 14th in the discus with a throw of 29.93m at the Trinity Invitational on March 28.

 

As a sophomore in 2008, she placed 25th in the hammer with a throw of 39.73 meters at the ECAC Championships on May 16. She earned All-New England honors in the hammer with an eighth place (40.39m) effort, while also placing ninth in the discus (33.55m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. Bucci was the New England Alliance Champion in the discus, placing first with a season-best effort (33.92m), while also earning N.E. All-Alliance honors in the hammer (41.62m) with a second place finish and a seventh place finish in the shot (10.16m), at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed first in the hammer (42.43m), fourth in the shot (10.22m), both season-best efforts, and sixth in the discus (31.02m) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Bucci placed first in the shot (10.17m) and discus (30.53m), while finishing second in the hammer (41.99m) at the Swanson Invitational on April 12. She placed second in the hammer (41.33m) and fourth in the discus (30.66m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Bucci placed second in the hammer (39.86m), third in the shot (9.64m) and fourth in the discus (30.00m) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. She placed 10th in the discus (27.14m) and 11th in the hammer (37.43m) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

As a freshman in 2007, she placed first in the shot with a throw of 8.76 meters, fourth in the discus with an effort of 25.35 meter, and placed eighth in the hammer with a 41.01-meter effort at the Last Chance Meet on May 18. She placed ninth in the hammer with a throw of 41.27 meters and 14th in the discus with an effort of 29.71 meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 4-5. Bucci earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. She placed second in the hammer with a 42.06-meter effort, second in the discus with a distance of 32.97 meters and third in the shot at 10.35 meters. She placed fifth in the discus with a season-best throw of 29.64 meters and sixth in the shot with a throw of 10.42 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. Bucci placed second in the shot with a season-best and new program record throw of 10.77 meters, fourth in the hammer with a throw of 35.51 meters and placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 29.96 meters at Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on Apr. 14. She placed second in the hammer with a throw of 39.52 meters, third in the discus with a throw of 31.59 meters and fourth in the shot with a throw of 10.24 meters at the Bryant Invitational on April 7.  Bucci placed second in the hammer with a throw of 40.40 meters, fourth in the shot with a throw of 10.23 meters and fifth in the discus with a throw of 24.96 meters at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. She placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 31.43 meters and 12th in the shot with a throw of 10.22 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24.

 

She is an elementary education major with a concentration in special education and a 2006 graduate of Smithfield High School.

 

Senior co-captain Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) earned All-ECAC honors in the triple jump, placing eighth with a season best and school-record effort (11.27m) at the ECAC Championships on May 14. She placed 10th in the triple jump (10.80m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 8. She earned All-New England honors in the triple jump (11.17m) with a seventh place finish and placed 19th in the 400m (1:01.24) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1. Iby earned N.E Alliance honors in the 400m with a season-best time of 1:01.69 and triple jump (10.84m) with fifth and fourth place finishes, respectively, at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She also placed 18th in the 200m (29.06). Iby placed 14th in the 200m (28.68), seventh in the 400m (1:03.40) and fourth in the triple jump (10.41m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. She placed third in the 200m (28.29), fourth in the 400m (1:04.12) and first in the triple jump (10.39m) at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Iby placed first in the triple jump (10.93m), seventh in the 200m with a season-best time of 27.98 and sixth in the 400m (1:02.25). She placed fourth in the triple jump (10.67m), sixth in the 400m (1:03.36) and 15th in the 200m (28.61) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27.

 

As a junior in 2009, she placed 21st in the triple jump (9.91m) and 21st in the 400m (1:02.11) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 2. She was the New England Alliance Champion as part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:12.03. She also earned N.E. Alliance honors in three additional events, placing third in both the triple jump with a season-best jump of 10.88m and as part of the 4x100m relay with a season-best time of 51.93, and fourth in the 400m (1:02.28) at the Alliance Championships on April 25. Iby placed fifth in the 200m with a time of 28.20 and second in the 400m with a season-best time of 1:00.83 at the Silfen Invitational on April 18. She placed fourth in the 100m with a season-best time of 13.55, third in the 200m with a season-best time of 28.63 and first in the triple jump (10.41m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on April 11. Iby placed second in the triple jump (10.46m) and fifth in the 400m (1:02.95) in the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4. She placed third in the triple jump (10.51m) and 11th in the preliminaries of the 100m (13.86) at the Trinity Invitational on March 28.

 

As a sophomore in 2008, she placed 22nd in the triple jump (10.15m) at the ECAC Championships on May 16th. She placed fourth in the triple jump (10.24m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 10. Iby earned All-New England honors in the triple jump, placing eighth with a 10.47-meter effort. She also placed 10th as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:19.38 and 15th as part of the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.31 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. Iby earned New England Alliance honors in three events at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed second in the triple jump with a 10.35-meter effort and eighth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:03.08. Iby was part of the 4x400 meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 4:20.25. She placed first with a season-best effort in the triple jump (10.70m) and third in the 400 meters (1:03.49) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Iby placed second in the triple jump (9.91m) and seventh in 100 meters (14.29) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed second in the triple jump (10.10m) and ninth in the 400 meters (1:05.47) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed third in the triple jump (9.13m), third with a season-best effort in the 100 meters (13.89) and fourth in the 200 meters (28.39) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. Iby placed third in the triple jump (9.61m), 10th in the 100 meters (14.28) and 11th with a season-best effort in the 200 meters (29.16) at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

As a freshman in 2007, placed 14th in the triple jump with a jump of 9.98 meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 4-5. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28. She placed sixth in the triple jump with a season-best effort of 10.22 meters, eighth as part of the 4x100 meter relay team with a time of 56.53 and seventh as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 4:37.62. Iby placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.91 meters, eighth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:07.42 and ninth in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 29.08 at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 21. She placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 9.49 meters, seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.35 meters and 10th in the 100 meters with a time of 14.09 at the Elmer J. Swanson Invitational on April 14.  Iby placed fourth in the 100 meters with a season-best time of 14.01 and sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.77 meters at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 7.   She placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 9.5 meters, seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.38 meter, and ninth in the 100 meters with a time of 14.38 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 31. Iby placed 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 9.32 meters at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 24.

 

She is a psychology major and a 2006 graduate of Dracut High School.

 

Senior Ashley Nyzio (Pawtucket, RI) placed 22nd in the javelin (29.08m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1. Nyzio placed eighth in the javelin (32.86m) at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She placed seventh in the javelin (29.28m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Nyzio placed seventh in the javelin (31.63m). She placed fourth in the javelin (33.45m) with a season-best effort at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27. She was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Week once.

 

As a junior in 2009, she placed 17th in the javelin (34.05m) at the NEICAAA Championships on May 9. She placed 12th in the javelin (31.81m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 25. Nyzio placed first in the javelin (37.81m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4. She placed first in the javelin with a season-best throw of 38.00m at the Trinity Invitational on March 28.

 

As a sophomore in 2007, she placed 17th in the javelin with an effort of 36.36 meters at the NCAA Div. III Womenís Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 24-26. She placed third in the javelin with a throw of 34.79 meters at the Last Chance Meet on May 18. Nyzio placed second in the javelin with a throw of 38.80 meters at the NEICAAA Championships on May 10-12.  She earned All-New England honors in the javelin, placing fourth with a throw of 36.74 meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 4-5.  Nyzio earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the javelin, placing second with a distance of 38.12 meters at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 28.

 

As a freshman in 2006, she earned All-ECAC honors in the javelin, placing fifth with a distance of 38.21 meters at the ECAC Championships on May 19. Nyzio placed sixth in the javelin with a distance of 36.96 meters at the New England Open Championships on May 13. She earned All-New England honors in the javelin, placing fourth with a distance of 38.18 meters at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 6. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the javelin, placing first with a distance of 39.61 meters at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Apr. 29. Nyzio placed third in the javelin with a distance of 32.24 meters at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 22. She placed first in the javelin with a distance of 36.18 meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 15. She placed seventh in the javelin with a distance of 32.18 meters at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 8. Nyzio placed first in the javelin with a distance of 34.12 meters at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Apr. 1. She placed sixth in the javelin with a distance of 33.64 meters at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 25.

 

She is a communications major and a 2005 graduate of St. Maryís-Bay View Academy

 

Junior Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) placed 10th in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 5:11.42 at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She placed fourth in the 1,500m (5:12.58) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. Desrosiers placed fifth in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 11:13.38 at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Desrosiers placed 22nd in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:40.05. She placed 20th in the 1,500m (5:16.55) and 52nd in the 800m (2:50.33) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27.

 

Junior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) was named the teamís MVP. She placed 17th in the 100m hurdles (16.04) at the ECAC Championships on May 14. She placed 21st in the 100m hurdles (16.12) and 23rd in the 400m hurdles (1:08.45) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 8. She earned All-New England honors in the 400m hurdles (1:06.79) with a season-best time and an eighth place finish, while also placing 10th in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles (16.33) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1. DiBlasi earned N.E. Alliance honors in both the 100m hurdles (16.00) and 400m hurdles (1:07.80) with third and fourth place finishes, respectively, at the Alliance Championships on April 24. DiBlasi placed second in the 100m hurdles with a new program-record time of 15.80 and second in the 400m hurdles (1:06.96) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. She placed first in the 100m hurdles (16.34) and 11th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:38.70 at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. DiBlasi placed first in the 100m hurdles (16.14) and fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:11.27) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3. She placed first in the 400m hurdles (1:09.04) and third in the 100m hurdles (16.55) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27.

 

Junior co-captain Nicole Poirier (Concord, NH) placed 15th in the 5,000m (22:37.07) at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She placed 11th in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 21:59.37 at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. Poirier placed 13th in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 5:58.61 at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Poirier placed eighth in the 5,000m (22:12.97).

 

Junior Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) placed 19th in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles (16.93) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1. Nunes placed 10th in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 16.83 at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She placed fifth in the 100m hurdles (17.07) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Nunes placed 15th in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:17.69. She placed third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a new program-record time of 14:25.05 and 15th in the 100m hurdles (18.44) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27.

 

Sophomore Brittany Richer (Woonsocket, RI) placed ninth in the 10,000m with a season-best time of 44:47.59 at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She placed seventh in the 5,000m (20:53.80) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. Richer placed 15th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 12:19.65 at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Richer placed 30th in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 5:56.12. She placed 24th in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 20:52.78 at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27.

 

Freshman Kristen Donovan (Charlestown, RI) placed 19th in the javelin with a season-best throw of 22.78m, 16th in the discus (27.31m) and 29th in the shot (7.48m) at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She placed 11th in the shot (7.66m), eighth in the discus (26.70m) and 10th in javelin (21.92m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. Donovan placed fourth in the discus with a season-best throw of 27.80m and 10th in the shot with a season-best throw of 8.19m at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Donovan placed 10th in the discus (25.59m).
