CAREY WINS 600 METERS AS RIC
OPENS INDOOR TRACK SEASON

 

Springfield, MAŚFreshman Kevin Carey (Wakefield, RI) won the 600m with a time of 1:24.88 as the Rhode Island College men's indoor track & field team opened the 2009-10 season at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon. He also took third in the high jump (1.76m).

RIC placed fifth (5 teams) with a score of 53.0. Springfield (170.50) won the meet, followed by WPI (130.5), Westfield State (126.0) and Eastern Connecticut (73.0).

 

 

 

Freshman Dionis Camacho (Providence, RI) broke the RIC indoor record for the 5,000m, placing third with a time of 15:49.84. 

 

 

 

Freshman Austin Pena (West Warwick, RI) placed fourth in the 800m (2:03.65), while classmate Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) also took fourth in the 1,000m (2:40.63).

 

Freshman Matt Macedo (North Scituate, RI) placed fourth in the mile (4:34.77), while his brother, junior Mike Macedo (North Scituate, RI), was fifth in the 5,000m (16:01.89).

 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 12.
