MANGUM WINS LONG JUMP AS RIC
OPENS INDOOR TRACK SEASON

 

Springfield, MAŚSophomore Kim Mangum (Warwick, RI) won the long jump with a distance of 5.03m as the Rhode Island College women's indoor track & field team opened the 2009-10 season at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon. She also took second in the triple jump (10.52m).

RIC placed fourth (5 teams) with a score of 61.0. Springfield (194.50) won the meet, followed by WPI (130.0) and Westfield State (88.50). Eastern Connecticut rounded out the five-team field (60.0).

 

 

 

Sophomore Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) placed second in the 1,000m (3:20.07). Senior Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) placed third in both the triple jump (10.24m) and the 400m (1:03.57), while placing eighth in the 55m (8.20).

 

Sophomore Brittany Richer (Woonsocket, RI) placed fourth in the 5,000m (20:38.44). Senior Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) took seventh in the shot (9.69m).

 

 

 Junior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) placed sixth in the 55m hurdles (9.75) and seventh in the 200m (29.47). Junior Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) placed seventh in the 800m (2:49.23) and eighth in the 55m hurdles (9.99).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 12.
