MENíS BASKETBALL TO FACE
RUTGERS-NEWARK AT MIDDLEBURY
IN NCAA TOURNAMENT ACTION

Providence, RI-The Rhode Island College menís basketball team will face Rutgers-Newark in first round action of the 2010 NCAA Div. III Menís Basketball Tournament on Friday, Mar. 5 at Middlebury College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

The Anchormen (20-7), who won their third Little East Conference Tournament title in four years,  will face the Scarlet Raiders (20-7), who lost in the semis of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament, on Friday night. The host Panthers (24-3), who lost in the NESCAC Championship Game to Williams, will host the Commonwealth Coast Conference champions Gordon College (24-4) that same night.

"Getting an NCAA bid for a fourth straight year is a tremendous accomplishment for our program," said Head Coach Bob Walsh. "Rutgers-Newark is very talented and extremely well coached, and it will be very tough first round game. Winning in the NCAA Tournament is always hard."

RIC is one of only seven schools in the nation who have been selected to play in the NCAA Tournament in each of the past four years. The Anchormen, Hope, Washington University, Brandeis, Wooster, Whitworth and Wisconsin-Stevens Point are in this elite group.

In its past three appearances, Rhode Island College reached the Elite Eight in 2007 and fell to the eventual national champion (Amherst), won its first round game vs. Nazareth before falling to Richard Stockton in the second round in 2008, and were upset by MIT in the first round last year.
