GAUTHIER HEADS UP RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE PILGRIM LEAGUE ALL-STARS

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College sophomore 125 lbs. Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA) was named a First Team Pilgrim League All-Star for his performance this season.

 

 

 Sophomore 125 lbs. Brandon Gauthier

 

He was 23-13 with 40 takedowns, 13 reversals, 14 near-falls and 10 pins on the season. Gauthier earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships. He also placed second at the Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 21), third at the Citrus Invitational (Dec. 29-30) and fifth at the Roger Williams Invitational (Nov. 14).

 

Sophomore 141 lbs. Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) was named a Second Team All-Star. He was 27-9 with 57 takedowns, five reversals, 26 near-falls and six pins. Trasso earned All-New England honors with a sixth place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships. He was second at both the Citrus Invitational (Dec. 29-30) and the Ursinus Invitational (Jan. 16), while placing fourth at the Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 21).

 

 

 Sophomore 141 lbs. Mike Trasso

 

Junior 149 lbs. Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) was named a Second Team All-Star and a Scholar-Athlete. He is 39-7 with 74 takedowns, 10 reversals, 38 near-falls and five pins. Sutherland earned All-New England honors with a second place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships. He placed first at the Ursinus Invitational (Jan. 16) and the Roger Williams Invitational (Nov. 14), second at the Citrus Invitational (Dec. 29-30) and third at the Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 21). He will compete at the NCAA Div. III National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Friday, Mar. 5 as one of the NEWA’s wild-card selections.

 

 

 Junior 149 lbs. Kevin Sutherland

 

Senior 174 lbs. Joe Manley (Wayland, MA) was named a Second Team All-Star. He was 18-5 with 30 takedowns, five reversals, 12 near-falls and seven pins. Manley earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships. He placed first at the Ursinus Invitational (Jan. 16) and second at both the Doug Parker (Nov. 21) and Citrus  (Dec. 29-30) Invitationals.

 

 

 Senior 174 lbs. Joe Manley

 

Freshman 285 lbs. Brian Nicoll (Plaistow, NH) was named a Second Team All-Star. He was 19-12 with 11 takedowns, one reversal, three near-falls and four pins. Nicoll earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships. He was second at the Roger Williams Invitational (Nov. 14), fourth at the Ursinus Invitational (Jan. 16) and sixth at the Citrus Invitational (Dec. 29-30).

 

 

 Freshman 285 lbs. Brian Nicoll

 

Senior 184 lbs. Ray Moore (Wrentham, MA) was an Honorable Mention All-Star. He was 23-10 with 35 takedowns, 14 reversals, 21 near-falls and eight pins. Moore earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships. He was second at the Roger Williams Invitational (Nov. 14) and fourth at the Citrus Invitational (Dec. 29-30).

 

 

 Senior 184 lbs. Ray Moore

 

Junior 133 lbs. Travis Drappi (West Orange, NJ) was named a Pilgrim League Scholar-Athlete. He was 24-7 with 45 takedowns, five reversals, 27 near-falls and two pins. Drappi earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships. He placed first at the Roger Williams Invitational (Nov. 14), Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 21) and Citrus Invitational (Dec. 29-30), while placing third at the Ursinus Invitational (Jan. 16).

 

 

 Junior 133 lbs. Travis Drappi

 

Head Coach Jay Jones team finished the year with a seventh place finish at the New England Championships. RIC was 13-7 overall, 10-6 vs. NEWA opposition and 3-2 in the Pilgrim League.
