SUTHERLAND ENDS SEASON
AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cedar Rapids, IAŚRhode Island College junior 149 lbs. Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) ended his season at the 2010 NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships on Friday evening at the U.S. Cellular Center.

 

 Sutherland, who was one of four wild-card selections by the New England Wrestling Association, was awarded a bye in first round action of the 149 lbs. weight class. He lost a 4-2 decision to Delaware Valley's Emanual Ajagbe in his first match, which sent him into the losers' bracket. His next opponent was Williams' Corey Paulish, who Sutherland defeated, 4-3, in the second tie-breaker on riding time to advance to the finals of his weight class at the New England Championships on Feb. 21. This time, Paulish got the better of Sutherland, earning a 5-2 decision to end the Anchorman captain's season.

 

 

 

Sutherland, a Second Team Pilgrim Wrestling League All-Star and Scholar-Athlete, finishes his season with a 39-9 record and five pins. Sutherland earned All-New England honors for the third straight season with a second place finish at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships on Feb. 21. He placed first at the Ursinus Invitational (Jan. 16) and the Roger Williams Invitational (Nov. 14), second at the Citrus Invitational (Dec. 29-30) and third at the Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 21).
