ANTONE GRAY NAMED LITTLE EAST
PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College junior guard Antone Gray (Providence, RI) was named the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Player of the Week for his performance in the Anchormenís two NCAA Tournament wins this past weekend.

 

Gray averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 assists and four rebounds per game to lead Rhode Island College to victories over Rutgers-Newark and No. 9 Middlebury in the NCAA Div. III Tournament. He shot 58.8 percent (10-for-17) from the field and 81.8 percent (9-for-11) from the charity stripe. Gray reached double digits in scoring in each game, including 19 points against the Scarlet Raiders. He connected on 6-for-9 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, while handing out four assists, in the first round win over Rutgers-Newark. The following night, Gray registered 12 points, pulled in five rebounds and dished out five helpers against the nationally-ranked Panthers.

 

 

 

For the season, he has played in 19 games, starting 15 of them. Gray is averaging 14.5 points, 4.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game.

 

The Anchormen (22-7) will battle Brandeis (21-6) with a chance to reach the Elite Eight on Friday, March 12 at sectional host Williams (27-1). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. If RIC wins, it will face the winner of SUNYIT (26-4) and the Ephs on Saturday, March 13 at 7 p.m. Rhode Island College defeated Brandeis in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament, while falling to the Judges in regular season action last winter.
