2009-10 Rhode Island College
Women’s Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

 

Providence, RI—Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team wrapped up the 2009-10 women’s indoor track and field season with one competitor seeing action at the 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships on March 5-6 at Smith College. RIC did not score as a team.

 

 The Anchorwomen did not score as a team at the 2010 New England Open Championships, hosted by Boston University on Feb. 26–27.

 

 Rhode Island College finished tied for 25th overall (26 teams) with 1.0 point at the N.E. Div. III Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 20.

 

 

 The Anchorwomen placed ninth overall (11 teams) with 21.0 points and fifth (six teams) in the Little East Conference with 39.0 points at the 2010 Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 13.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Senior Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) placed 15th in the weight throw (10.66m) and 23rd in the shot (9.02m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 35th in the weight throw (10.73m) at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. Bucci placed ninth in the shot (9.67m) and 12th in the weight throw (11.07m) at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. She placed first in the shot (10.28m) and second in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 12.05m at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Bucci placed 16th in the shot (8.80m) and 11th in the weight throw (10.93m) at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. At the Harvard Open on December 12, she finished 11th in the weight throw (11.67m) and 27th in the shot (9.15m). Bucci placed seventh in the shot put with a season-best toss of 9.69m and fifth in the weight throw (11.68m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

 

As a junior in 2008-09, Bucci placed 18th in the shot (10.44m) and placed 10th in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 13.34m at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20-21. She earned N.E. Alliance honors, placing fourth in the shot with a season-best throw (10.72m) and third in the weight throw (13.20m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Bucci placed fifth in the weight throw (11.92m) and placed fourth in the shot put (10.26m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed eighth in the weight throw (12.15m) and sixth in the shot put (10.31m) at the URI Invitational on Jan. 31. Bucci placed fourth in the weight throw (12.19m) and fourth in the shot (10.11m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. She placed first in the shot (10.34m) and second the weight throw (12.37m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Bucci placed fifth in the shot (10.20m) and sixth in the weight throw (12.15m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. She placed fourth in the shot (10.48m) and 12th in the weight throw (10.49m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec.6.

 

 

As a sophomore in 2007-08, Bucci was the N.E. Alliance Champion in the shot, placing third with a season-best distance of 10.71 meters, and in the weight throw, placing sixth at 11.56 meters, at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed 48th in the shot with a throw of 9.88 meters and 44th in the weight throw with a toss of 11.76 meters at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Bucci placed 13th in the shot with a throw of 9.93 meters and 10th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.44 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. She placed seventh in the shot with a throw of 9.62 meters and third in the weight throw with a toss of 11.77 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Bucci placed second in the shot with a throw of 10.21 meters and second in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 11.84 meters at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 11th in the shot with a throw of 10.89 meters and 15th in the weight throw with a toss of 11.13 meters at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. She placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 11.35 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. Bucci placed 26th in the shot with a toss of 9.10 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

 

As a freshman in 2006-07, Bucci earned N.E. Alliance honors in the shot, placing sixth with a distance of 10.50 meters, as well as the weight throw, placing eighth with an effort of 11.10 meters at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. Bucci placed eighth in the shot with a throw of 10.06 meters, and placed 10th in the weight throw with a throw of 10.47 meters at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 3. She placed fourth in the shot with a distance of 10.00 meters and fifth in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 11.46 meters at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27. Bucci placed second in the shot with a season-best distance of 10.61 meters and ninth in the weight throw with a 10.86-meter effort at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational on Jan. 20. She placed fifth in the shot with a throw of 10.52 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 13. Bucci placed 22nd in the weight throw with a distance of 10.86 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 9. She placed 16th in the weight throw with a throw of 10.24 meters at the Brown Invitational on Dec. 2.

 

 

Bucci is an elementary education major with a concentration in special education and a 2006 graduate of Smithfield High School.

 

 

Senior Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) placed 15th in the triple jump (10.76) at the ECAC Championships on March 6. She placed 22nd in the triple jump (10.21m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. Iby earned All-New England honors in the triple jump by placing eighth with a season-high leap of 10.98m at the N. E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20. She also placed 22nd in the 400m (1:02.59). Iby earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events by placing fourth in the triple jump (10.49m) and fifth in the 400m (1:01.77) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She also placed 5th as a part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:28.47, 14th in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.93) and 18th in the 200m (28.37). Iby placed 26th in the 400m with a season-best time of 1:01.07, and finished 17th in the triple jump (10.08m) at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. Iby placed seventh in the triple jump (10.37m), 19th in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.99) and tenth in the 400m (1:02.93) at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. She placed first in the 55m with a season-best time of 7.91, first in the 200m (28.97), first as part of the 4x200m relay with a season-best time of 1:55.00, first in the triple jump (10.62m), second in the 400m (1:03.78) and third as part of the 4x400m relay (4:47.49) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Iby placed sixth in the triple jump (10.10m) and 27th in the 400m (1:02.98) at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. At the Harvard Open on Dec. 12, Iby finished eighth as part of the 4x440yd relay with a program record time of 4:24.01, ninth in the triple jump (10.52m), 29th in the preliminaries of the 60m with a season-best time of 8.61 and 32nd in the 200m with a season-best time of 28.28. She placed second as part of the 4x200m relay (1:55.10), second as a part of the 4x400m relay (4:31.28), third in the triple jump (10.24m), third in the 400m (1:03.57) and eighth in the 55m (8.20) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

 

As a junior in 2008-09, Iby placed 24th in the 400m (1:04.31), ninth in the triple jump (10.64m) and 11th in the 4x400m relay at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20-21. She earned N.E. Alliance honors, placing fourth in the triple jump with a season-best jump (10.65m) and the 400m with a season-best time (1:03.19), third as part of the 4x200m relay with a season-best time (1:53.15) and third as part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time (4:25.69) as well as placing 12th in the 55m with a season-best time (7.94) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Iby placed sixth in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:54.50 and third in the triple jump (10.22m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Feb. 7.  She placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 1:04.43 and seventh in the triple jump (10.25m) at the URI Invitational on Jan. 31. Iby placed sixth in the 600m with a time of 1:55.69 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24.  She placed first in the 55m with a time of 8.12, fifth in the 400m with a time of 1:06.12 and second in the triple jump (9.81m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Iby placed 16th in the triple jump (9.70m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13.  She placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 1:05.67 and sixth in the triple jump (9.91m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

 

As a sophomore in 2007-08, Iby earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 16. She placed eighth in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 9.68 meters. Iby also placed third as part of the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.21 and second as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.65. She placed 75th in the 55 meters with a season-best time of 8.06 and 153rd in the 200 meters with a time of 29.20 at the B.U. Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Iby placed 17th in the 55 meters (8.12), 26th in the 200 meters with a season-best effort (29.12) and placed 16th in the triple jump (8.98 meters) at the URI Mega Meet on Feb. 2. She placed 14th in the 200 meters with a time of 29.31 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 26. Iby placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 9.84 meters and third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.83 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed 24th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.24 at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 12. Iby placed 47th in the 60 meters (8.86), 48th in the 200 meters (29.49), and 19th in the triple jump (9.49 meters) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 8. She placed 36th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.73 and 23rd in the triple jump with a leap of 9.22 meters at the Husky Winter Carnival on Dec. 1.

 

 

She competed in women’s gymnastics as a freshman in 2006-07.

 

 

 

Iby is a psychology major and a 2006 graduate of Dracut High School.

 

 

Junior Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) placed fifth as part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:28.47, ninth in the 800m (2:39.04) and 10th in the mile with a season-best time of 5:37.25 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 82nd in the mile (5:46.58) at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. Desrosiers placed 21st in the 800m (2:37.39) and sixth in the mile (5:37.75) at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. She placed second in the 1,000m (3:29.54), third as part of the 4x400m relay (4:47.49), third as part of the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 11:57.54 and fifth in the mile (6:05.71) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Desrosiers finished 27th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 11:34.50 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. At the Harvard Open on Dec. 12, she finished eighth as part of the 4x440yd relay with a program record time of 4:24.01 and 25th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:36.58. She finished second in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 3:20.07 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Junior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) was named the team’s MVP. DiBlasi placed 11th in the semifinals of the 55m hurdles with a season-best time of 9.07 and 16th in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:43.43 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20. DiBlasi earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events by placing fifth in the 55m hurdles (9.21) and sixth in the 600m (1:46.47) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She also placed fifth as part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:28.47 and 19th in the 200m (28.50). DiBlasi placed 24th in the 500m with a program record time of 1:23.69 and also finished 23rd in the 55m hurdles (9.29) at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. DiBlasi placed seventh in the 55m hurdles (9.30) and 10th in the 200m with a season-best time of 28.75 at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. She placed first in the 55m hurdles (9.35), first as part of the 4x200m relay (1:55.80), second in the 200m (29.07), third in the 600m (1:51.93) and third as part of the 4x400m relay (4:47.49) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. DiBlasi finished 13th in the 60m hurdles with a program record time of 10.17 and 34th in the 400m (1:04.96) at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. At the Harvard Open on Dec. 12, she finished eighth as part of the 4x440yd relay with a program record of 4:24.01, 21st in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (10.28) and 22nd in the 400m with a season-best time of 1:04.89. DiBlasi finished second as part of the 4x200m relay with a season-best time of 1:55.10, second as part of the 4x400m relay (4:31.28), sixth in the 55m hurdles (9.75) and seventh in the 200m (29.47) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Junior Jaime Nunes (Lincoln, RI) placed 24th in preliminaries of the 55m hurdles (9.46) at the N. E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20. Nunes placed fifth as part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:28.47, 11th in the preliminaries of the 55m hurdles (9.52) and 17th in the 800m (2:52.25) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 71st in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:42.66 and also finished 29th in the 55m hurdles (9.47) at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. Nunes placed 16th in the 55m hurdles (9.56) and 27th in the 800m (2:43.60) at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. She placed first as part of the 4x200m relay with a season-best time of 1:55.80, third as part of the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 11:57.54, fourth in the 55m hurdles (9.45) and fifth in the 800m (2:52.84) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Nunes finished 14th in the 60m hurdles (10.35) at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. At the Harvard Open on Dec. 12, she finished 24th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 10:32. Nunes finished second as part of the 4x400m relay (4:31.28), seventh in the 800m (2:49.23) and eighth in the 55m hurdles (9.99) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Junior Nicole Poirier (Concord, NH) placed 24th in the 3,000m (12:51.73) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 27th in the mile (6:42.92) at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. She placed third as part of the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 11:57.54, fifth in the 3,000m (13:22.20) and eighth in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 3:56.19 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. At the Harvard Open on Dec. 12, she finished 23rd in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 12:15.93. She finished 15th in the mile with a season-best time of 6:18.34 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Sophomore Nicole Gelinas (Dayville, CT) placed 10th in the pole vault with a season-high effort of 2.29m, 20th in the preliminaries of the 55m (8.23) and 29th in the 200m with a season-best time of 30.59 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 33rd in the preliminaries of the 55m (8.39) and also finished 72nd in the 200m (30.60) at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. Gelinas placed first as part of the 4x200m relay (1:55.80), second in the 55m with a season-best time of 8.17, third as part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:47.49 and third in the pole vault (2.14m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Gelinas finished 38th in the 60m with a season-best time of 8.99 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. At the Harvard Open on Dec. 12, she placed 43rd in the preliminaries of the 60m (9.00) and 78th in the 200m (31.65). She finished second as part of the 4x200m relay with a season-best time of 1:55.10, 12th in the pole vault (2.13m) and 16th in the preliminaries of the 55m (8.76) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Sophomore Molly Gouveia (Warwick, RI) placed 21st in the weight throw (10.87m) at the N. E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20.  Gouveia earned N.E. Alliance honors by placing eighth in the weight throw (11.88m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She also placed 19th in the shot with a season-best effort of 9.54m. Gouveia placed 40th in the shot (9.11m) and also finished 34th in the weight throw (10.98m) at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. Gouveia placed 14th in the shot (8.90m) and fourth in the weight throw with a season-best effort of 12.97m at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. She placed first in the weight throw (12.61m) and second in the shot (9.47m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Gouveia placed 11th in the shot (9.15m) and 10th in the weight throw (11.17m) at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. At the Harvard Open on December 12, she finished 15th in the weight throw (11.47m) and 37th in the shot (8.38m). Gouveia finished eighth in the weight throw (11.31m) and ninth in the shot (9.11m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Sophomore Kim Mangum (Warwick, RI) was injured and missed the second half of the season. She placed fifth in the long jump with a program record leap of 5.29m, third in the triple jump with a program record jump of 11.12m and finished eighth as part of the 4x440yd relay with a program record time of 4:24.01 at the Harvard Open on Dec. 12. At the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5, Mangum placed first in the long jump (5.03m), second as part of the 4x200m relay with a season-best time of 1:55.10, second as part of the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 4:31.28 and second in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 10.52m. She was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Week twice.

 

Sophomore Brittany Richer (Woonsocket, RI) placed 16th in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 3:41.25 and 20th in the 3,000m (12:15.50) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 65th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 11:50.95 at the Boston University Invitational on Jan. 29. Richer placed first in the 3,000m (11:56.69), third as part of the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 11:57.54 and fifth in the 1,000m (3:42.41) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Richer finished 33rd in the 3,000m (11:58.26) at the Yale Classic on Jan. 9. She placed fourth in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 20:38.44 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.
