GRIMES NAMED MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM MVP

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College senior guard Jake Grimes (Providence, RI) was named the men’s basketball team’s MVP for his performance this year.

 

He was named First Team All-Little East Conference and to the league’s All-Defensive Team.  Grimes was considered to be one of the top guards in the conference, after transferring into RIC from the University of Rhode Island and two seasons at CCRI.  He played in 30 games, starting 26 of them. Grimes averaged 14.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He ranked first on the team in points and steals, was second in blocks, while ranking third in both assists and total rebounds. Grimes had season-highs of  30 points and four steals at Eastern Connecticut on Dec. 5, grabbed nine rebounds against UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 26, dished out seven assists at UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 16 and had three blocks against Keene State on Feb. 6.

 

Head Coach Bob Walsh’s team finished the season with a 22-8 overall record. The Anchormen won the Little East Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
