COSTA HAS GOAL & ASSIST AS RIC
WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT
Espildora & Ruiz Also Score in, 3-1, Victory Over Rams

Framingham, MA-Junior forward Bruno Costa (Pawtucket, RI) and classmate midfielder Hector Espildora Fortuno (Malaga, Spain) each had a goal and an assist, while junior midfielder Jose Ruiz (Providence, RI) scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute, as Rhode Island College won its sixth straight game in a 3-1 victory at Framingham State's Maple Street Field.

Ruiz has been on fire over the Anchormen's (7-2) last three matches with four goals and two assists for 10 points.

 

After a scoreless first half, the Anchormen struck for two goals less than 10 minutes into the second. Junior forward Mike Patriarca (Warren, RI) sent a cross to Costa who beat the Rams (7-2) keeper with a well placed shot for the game’s first goal at 51:03. Espildora Fortuno launched a corner kick into the box that Ruiz  headed home to give Rhode Island College a 2-0 lead at the 54:28 mark.

Less than two minutes later, Framingham State senior forward Jason Silva (Northbridge, MA) struck for the Rams only goal in the game as he found the back of the net with a direct kick from 20 yards out. Espildora Fortuno scored an insurance goal for the Anchormen in the 85th minute off an assist from Costa to reach the final margin of 3-1.

 

The Rams outshot the Anchormen, 20-11, in the game, including, 10-7, in the second half, but RIC junior goalkeeper Nick Clark (East Bridgewater, MA) made eight saves en route to the win. FSU goalkeeper Greg Halle (Beverly, MA) made five stops for the Rams in a losing effort.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 2.
