KEENE SLIDES BY ANCHORMEN, 1-0, IN OT

Keene, NH-Sophomore Joe Senecal (Manchaug, MA) provided the fireworks on the field, scoring the game-winning goal with 1:21 to play in the first overtime to lift the Keene State menís soccer team to a dramatic, 1-0, Little East Conference win over Rhode Island College.

Double-teamed going to the net, freshman Scott Douglas (East Greenwich, RI) slid the ball over to Senecal for the winner.

Keene State had the better of the opportunity in the intense and highly competitive game.  Midway thought the first half, Douglas had a drive from inside the box that sailed just over the cross bar. Four minutes later, senior Cam Blair (Keene, NH) blasted a shot that just missed the far post.

A force throughout the game, Douglas had a chance to get the clincher early in the extra secession with a turnaround shot in the box, but RIC junior goalie Nick Clark (East Bridgewater, MA) was able to get his hand on the ball and steer it over the bar.

With the win, Keene State (7-4, 3-0 LEC) takes over sole possession of first place in the LEC standings. Rhode Island College (7-3, 2-1 LEC) suffers its first conference loss and saw its six-game winning streak come to an end.

Keene State outshot the Anchormen, 17-6, and had a slim, 5-4, advantage in corner kicks.

KSC senior goalie Paul Blackmer (Boylston, MA) finished the game with two saves to notch his first career shutout.  Clark stopped four shots for RIC.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 9.
