SHAW LEADS SPRINGFIELD PAST RIC, 9-0
Pride Climb Within One Match of .500

Providence, RI-Senior Amy Shaw (Walpole, MA) won a straight set match (6-0, 6-4) at No. 1 singles to lead the Springfield College women’s tennis team to a 9-0 win over Rhode Island College at the RIC Tennis Courts.

 

The Pride improve to 3-4, while the woes continue for the Anchorwomen who fall to 0-11.

 

Shaw paired with classmate Erin Walgren (West Hartford, CT) for an 8-0 shutout win at the top doubles spot and that set the tone for the match. Walgren also won her contest at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-1).

 

Sophomore Sam Carney (Franklin, MA) won at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-2) to round out the top three.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference competition when the Anchorwomen travel to Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 9.
