RIC WOMEN’S TENNIS SPLITS SINGLES
IN LOSS TO EMERSON
Doubles Play the Difference in, 6-3, Defeat

Providence, RI-For the second time this season, the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team came away with three wins to split the singles competition. However, Emerson swept the doubles competition to claim a 6-3 victory in non-conference action on the RIC tennis courts on Wednesday afternoon.  

 

With the victory, the Lions improve to 8-1 on the season. The Anchorwomen fall to 0-14 in defeat. 

 

 

 Freshman Kayla Morris

 

Emerson freshman Lacey Russell (Roswell, GA) and sophomore Laura Miley (Cranston, RI) were the key components to the Lions victory. Russell won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, while Miley won (6-1, 7-6) a spot below in the order. The pair combined for a decisive 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles.

 

After dropping all three doubles matches, the Anchorwomen picked up three victories in singles competition. At No. 3 singles, sophomore Shannon Bilodeau (Seekonk, MA) topped senior Kelly McCarthy (Saugus, MA), 6-2, 6-3. At the fourth spot, freshman Kayla Morris (North Smithfield, RI) swept senior Kailey Smith (Madison, ME), 6-0, 6-0. In the final singles competition, No. 6 singles freshman competitor Kassandra Lima (Coventry, RI) bested sophomore Elyse Bartlett (Springfield, PA), 6-2, 6-3.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen close out the regular season in a conference match at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, October 16.
