RIC WRAPS UP DAY ONE AT ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS SEVEN STROKES OFF THE LEAD

Providence, RI-Sophomore Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) tied for second overall with a 79 as Rhode Island College wrapped up the first day of play at the 2010 Little East Conference/GNAC Alliance Menís Golf Championships played at Triggs Memorial Golf Course.

The Anchormen are currently in third place (339), seven strokes off of first place UMass Dartmouthís (332) lead and six behind second place Johnson & Wales (333).

 

Harper was tied with two other competitors at +7 for the day. Sophomore Kyle Garcia (Rehoboth, MA) finished in eighth (84, +12), while seniors Derek Jensen (Cumberland, RI) and Bryan Picinisco (Dartmouth, MA) tied for 19th (88, +16).

 

Senior Steve Zahn (Coventry, RI) finished 25th (91, +19).

 

The seven-team field will take to the links tomorrow morning to finish the two-day, 36-hole tournament. The winner will advance to the 2011 NCAA Championships in the spring.
