2010 Rhode Island College Women’s Volleyball
Season Summary
(13-18 Overall; 2-5 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, R.I.—Head Coach Luis Carvalho’s (Career record: 41-59, .410) team finished the 2010 season with a 13-18 overall record and a 2-5 (sixth place) mark in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen qualified for the Little East Tournament for the second consecutive season, but were defeated in the first round by Plymouth State, 3-0, on Nov. 2 in the club’s final match of the season.

 

 

 

Senior outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) closed out her four-year career as an Anchorwoman playing in 383 sets in 120 matches. She totaled 684 kills, a .096 hitting percentage (684-463-2,280), 170 digs (1.6/set), 128 service aces (.33/set) and 201 blocks (.52/set). Heidel ranks seventh in program history in kills and 11th in blocks.

 

As a senior in 2010, Heidel played in 106 sets in 31 matches. She totaled 211 kills (1.99/set), a .144 hitting percentage, 41 service aces (0.39/set), 170 digs (1.6/set), and 74 blocks (.70/set). Heidel ranked first on the team in service aces, second in kills, digs and blocks. She was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week once. Heidel reached the double digit mark in kills eight times, posting a season-high 15 in a 3-0 loss at Lasell on Sept. 21 and in a 3-2 win vs. Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 12.

 

As a junior in 2009, Heidel played in 113 sets in 37 matches. She totaled 175 kills (1.6/set), a .137 hitting percentage, 56 service aces (.50/set), 142 digs (1.3/set) and 93 blocks (.82/set). Heidel ranked first on the team in service aces, second in blocks and fifth in both kills and digs.  

 

As a sophomore in 2008, she played in 92 sets in 27 matches. She totaled 197 kills (2.1/set), 19 service aces (.21/set), 209 digs (2.3/set) and 22 blocks (.24/set). Heidel was second on the team in kills.

 

As a freshman in 2007, Heidel played in 72 sets in 25 matches. She totaled 101 kills (1.4/set), a .045 hitting percentage, two assists (.03/set), 12 service aces (.17/set), 87 digs (1.2/set) and 12 blocks (.17/set). Heidel was fourth on the team in kills. She was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week once on the season.

 

She is an accounting major and a 2007 graduate of Pilgrim High School.

 

Sophomore middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) played in 103 sets in 30 matches. She totaled 170 kills (1.65/set), a .203 hitting percentage, 32 service aces (0.31/set), 40 digs (0.39/set) and 87 blocks (0.84/set). Archer had the most blocks on the team, while finishing second in service aces and fourth in kills. She reached double digits in kills in five matches, posting a season-high 11 on three occasions. Archer reached a season-high seven blocks twice, in a 3-0 win over Emmanuel on Sept. 28 and again in a 3-1 win over Clark on Oct. 2.

 

Sophomore opposite Valerine Biascochea (Central Falls, RI) played in 98 sets in 31 matches. She totaled 40 kills (0.41/set), a .165 hitting percentage, 25 service aces (0.26/set), 76 digs (0.78/set) and 30 blocks (0.31/set). Biascochea was fifth on the team in service aces, blocks and kills, while ranking sixth in digs. She registered a season-high five kills in a 3-0 win over Suffolk on Sept. 5 and in a 3-1 loss to Westfield State on Sept. 18.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) was named Second Team All-Little East. She played in 103 sets in 30 matches. She totaled 327 kills (3.17/set), a .290 hitting percentage, 28 service aces (0.27/set), 209 digs (2.03/set) and 35 blocks (0.34/set). Boyer led the team in kills, hitting percentage and digs, while finishing third in both service aces and blocks.  She reached double digits in kills 16 times, posting a season-high 21 in a 3-2 loss to Assumption on Sept. 4.

 

Sophomore setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) played in 99 sets in 29 matches. She totaled 711 assists (7.18/set), 19 kills (0.19/set), a .343 hitting percentage, 17 service aces (0.17/set), 88 digs (0.89/set) and eight blocks (0.08/set). Ho led the team in assists, while finishing fourth in digs. She reached double digits in 26 of the 29 matches she saw action in. Ho eclipsed 40 assists three times, handing out a season-high 45 in a 3-2 win over Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 12.

 

Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Bourgeois (North Smithfield, RI) played in 15 sets in six matches. She totaled four kills (0.27/set) and four blocks (.27/set).

 

Freshman outside hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) played in 107 sets in 31 matches. She totaled 177 kills (1.65/set), a .134 hitting percentage, 26 service aces (0.24/set), 152 digs (1.42/set) and 31 blocks (0.29/set). Cabral finished third on the team in kills and digs, while coming in fourth on the squad in service aces and blocks. She posted a season-high 15 digs in a 3-1 win over Clark on Oct. 2 and made a season-high 15 digs in a 3-0 win over Regis on Sept. 4.

 

Freshman setter Chelsea Murphy (Pascoag, RI) played in four sets in two matches. She totaled two kills (0.50/set), a 1.000 hitting percentage (two attempts), 23 assists (5.8/set), two digs (0.50/set) and one block (0.25/set). Murphy set up a season-high 14 winners in a 3-0 loss to Plymouth State on Oct. 30.

 

Freshman outside hitter Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, RI) played in 46 sets in 16 matches. She totaled seven kills (0.15/set), a .556 hitting percentage, 11 service aces (0.24/set) and 75 digs (1.63/set).

 

Freshman middle blocker Tayla Rescio (West Greenwich, RI) played in 19 sets in 12 matches. She totaled seven kills (0.37/set), four digs (0.21/set) and four blocks (0.21/set). 

 

Freshman libero Harley Mitchell (North Smithfield, RI) played in 104 sets in 31 matches. She totaled three kills (0.03/set), a .167 hitting percentage, three service aces (0.03/set) and 92 digs (0.88/set). Mitchell finished fourth on the team in digs. She made a season-high 10 digs in a 3-1 win at Western New England on Sept. 15.

 

Freshman outside hitter Alba Vargas (Central Falls, RI) played in four sets in three matches. She totaled one service ace (0.25/set) and two digs (0.50/set).
