WERCHADLO & AIELLO LEAD MENíS TENNIS
TO, 6-3, WIN OVER EMERSON

Providence, RI-Freshman Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) and senior Mike Aiello (Scituate, RI) earned straight set singles victories as the Rhode Island College menís tennis team defeated Emerson, 6-3, at the RIC Tennis Courts.

 

The Anchormen (1-1) were seeing their first action of the spring after suffering a loss in their opener back in September. Emerson (0-3) suffers its third setback of the season.

 

 

 Freshman No. 2 Singles Alex Werchadlo

 

Werchadlo paired with senior Nate Rebello (Pawtucket, RI) for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Aiello and freshman Brad Lamoureux (Pawtucket, RI) earned an 8-3 decision at the second doubles spot.

 

Sophomores Matt Merksamer (Sacramento, CA) and Nate Fuller (Rehoboth, MA) kept the Anchormen from sweeping the doubles matches with an 8-3 win at the third spot.

 

RIC sealed the victory by taking four of the six singles matches. Werchadlo defeated sophomore Mitch Lance (Tarrytown, NY), 6-3, 6-2, for a win at No. 2 singles. Aiello dominated in his match (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 singles.

Emerson junior Ken Nikravesh (Crans, Switzerland) defeated Rebello at the top singles flight, 6-4, 6-4.

 

Sophomore Brian Gil (North Providence, RI) and junior Jason Morin (East Providence, RI) won at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively, to close out the Anchormen winners.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face Newbury in a match played at Pine Manor on Wednesday, March 23.
