Relays Pace Anchorwomen at Coast Guard Invitational

Providence, RI-The Rhode Island College women's outdoor track and field team finished sixth (12 teams) competing at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Spring Invitational held Saturday afternoon. The Anchorwomen scored 66 team points, while winner Westfield State led the way with 120.

 

RIC's relay teams excelled in the meet, winning both the 4x100m (52:02) and 4x400m relays (4:13.57). Both squads were comprised of senior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI), freshman Jessica Graham (Wakefield, RI), sophomore Kim Mangum (Warwick, RI) and freshman Natasha Miller (Wakefield, RI).

Mangum also enjoyed individual success in her prolific afternoon, winning the triple jump (10.81m). She finished third in the long jump (4.74m) and 11th in the 200m (29.32). 

 

 

 Freshman Jessica Graham

 

DiBlasi claimed victory in the 400m hurdles (1:06.79). She also placed eighth in the 100m dash (13.75). 

 

Senior Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) finished second in the 1,500m (4:54.68).

 

 

 Sophomore Kim Mangum

 

Graham and Miller each had a pair of top-10 finishes. Graham took fourth in the pole vault (2.60m) and seventh in the 100m hurdles (17.32). Miller placed seventh in the 200m (28.84) and ninth in the 100m (13.75). 

 

 

 Freshman Natasha Miller

 

Freshman Jeanette Leo (Providence, RI) finished seventh in the hammer throw (34.43m). Freshman Chelsea Marshall (New Bedford, MA) placed 26th in the 800m (2:41.20). 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, April 9.
