REBELLO HELPS RIC MENíS TENNIS OPEN LITTLE EAST PLAY WITH, 6-3, WIN OVER HUSKIES

Providence, R.I.- Senior Nate Rebello (Pawtucket, RI) won at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the Rhode Island College menís tennis team to a 6-3 win over Southern Maine in the Little East Conference opener for both clubs.

 

Rebello did not lose a game, winning (6-0, 6-0) at the top singles spot to raise his personal mark to 6-1. The Anchormen improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the Little East, while USM drops to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in league action.

RIC began the day by taking two of three in doubles action. Rebello and freshman Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) combined to pitch an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles, a feat that was equaled by senior Mike Aiello (Scituate, RI) and freshman Kyle Kelaghan (East Greenwich, RI) a spot lower in the lineup.

 

Werchadlo (6-1, 6-2) won at No. 2 singles, while Kelaghan (6-3, 6-2) and sophomore Nate Lee (Bar Harbor, ME) (6-1, 6-4) also earned a pair of straight set wins.

 

The Huskies needed three-set victories by sophomore Jonathan Sproul (Bristol, ME) at No. 3 singles (6-4, 0-6, 6-2) and freshman Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, MA) at No. 5 singles (3-6, 7-5, 6-3) to salvage a pair of singles wins.

 

Ross teamed with classmate Corey Dyke (Monmouth, ME) for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Clark on Monday, April 11 (4 p.m.).
