Providence, R.I.-Behind senior Mike Aielloís (Scituate, RI) third set tiebreak win, visiting Rhode Island College defeated Clark University in non-league menís tennis action on Monday evening at Corash Tennis Courts.


RIC (5-3) wins for the third straight match and for the fourth time in five contests. Clark drops to 1-8.

With the match tied at 4-4, Aiello was locked in a battle with the Cougarsí Aaron Chin (Hong Kong, China). After taking the first set 6-4, Aiello dropped the second 6-2, before the final set needed a tiebreak to decide the match. Aiello, proved to be too much for Chin, however, wrapping up the match with a 7-1 tiebreak decision.


Clark won two of the three doubles matches. Senior Nathan Rebello (Pawtucket, RI) and freshman Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) won at No. 1 doubles.


Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, MA) and Bram Smith (Becket, MA) were also victorious at No. 3 doubles, knocking off sophomore Jack Adamo (Warwick, RI) and freshman Brad Lamoureux (Pawtucket, RI) by virtue of an 8-2 score.


Angel posted a straight set win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 7-5) over Rebello to get the Cougars off and running, but Werchaldo answered back with a straight set win of his own (6-1, 6-2) over Rollinger at No. 2.


Dan Paradee (Gardiner, ME) collected a win (6-1, 6-0) over junior Jason Morin (East Providence, RI) at No.5 and Nathan Maltais (Seabrook, NH) was victorious over sophomore Brian Gil (North Providence, RI) at No. 6 (6-0, 6-3), but Aielloís heroics pushed the Anchormen to the win.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, April 12.
