HOPKINS SIGNS CONTRACT WITH CHATHAM AS OF THE CAPE COD BASEBALL LEAGUE

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College junior outfielder Brent Hopkins (Cranston, RI) has signed a temporary contract to play with the Chatham As of the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer.

 

 

 

In 2011, Hopkins played in 42 games, starting all of them. He was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. Hopkins batted .325 (53-for-163) with 26 runs scored, 53 hits, eight doubles, seven home runs, 39 RBI and four stolen bases. He owned a .503 slugging percentage, a .398 on-base percentage and a .831 fielding percentage.

 

Head Coach Scott Virgulak's team finished the season with a 22-20 overall record and a 6-8 (fifth place tie) in the Little East Conference. RIC went 4-0 at the 2011 Little East Conference Championship to win the program's second tourney title (2005) and advance to the NCAA Championships. RIC went 1-2 at the New England Regional from May 18-20, picking up a 12-2 win over MIT, which was the program's first NCAA win in 31 years.
