2011 Rhode Island College
Womenís Outdoor Track & Field Season Summary

 

Providence, RIóHead Coach Kevin Jacksonís team wrapped up the 2011 womenís outdoor track and field season with two competitors seeing action at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships hosted by Moravian on May 19-20. RIC did not score as a team. The Anchorwomen received the Little East Conference Team Sportsmanship Award.

 

 The Anchorwomen tied for 27th place (29 teams) with a score of 2.0 at the 2011 New England Div. III Championships, hosted by MIT on May 7.

 

The Anchorwomen placed sixth in the Alliance (10 teams) with 68.0 points and fourth (six teams) in the Little East Conference with 79.0 points at the 2011 N.E. Alliance Championships, hosted by Fitchburg State on April 30.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Senior Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) placed 23rd in the 5,000m with a season-best time (18:39.92) at the ECAC Div. III Championships on May 19-20. Desrosiers finished 21st in the 5,000m (18:57.48) at the N.E. Div. III Championships at MIT on May 7. She earned two N.E. Alliance honors by winning the 5,000m (18:42.76) and finishing sixth in the 1,500m (4:56.64) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. Desrosiers won both the 1,500m (5:01.14) and the 5,000m (18:45.97) at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. She won the 1,500m (5:01.58) and finished fourth in the 800m with a season-best time (2:33.70) at the Swanson Invitational at Wesleyan on April 9. Desrosiers placed second in the 1,500m with a season-best time (4:54.68) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. She finished second in the 5,000m (18:48.41) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26.

 

As a junior in 2010, Desrosiers placed 10th in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 5:11.42 at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She placed fourth in the 1,500m (5:12.58) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. Desrosiers placed fifth in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 11:13.38 at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. At the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3, Desrosiers placed 22nd in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:40.05. She placed 20th in the 1,500m (5:16.55) and 52nd in the 800m (2:50.33) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27.

 

As a sophomore in 2009, she placed 12th in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 5:25.22 at the Alliance Championships on April 25. She placed third in the 800m hurdles with a time of 2:43.36 at the Wesleyan Invitational on April 11. Desrosiers placed 20th in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 5:26.00 at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4. She placed 33rd in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:41.86 at the Trinity Invitational on March 28.

 

As a freshman in 2008, Desrosiers placed ninth in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 5:28.24 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. She placed 13th in the 800m with a time of 2:42.50 in the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. Desrosiers placed ninth in the 1,500m with a time of 5:38.15 at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. She placed 24th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:41.94 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. Desrosiers placed sixth in the 1,500m with a time of 5:52.93 at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. She placed 19th in the 800m with a time of 2:45.82 at the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

Desrosiers is an elementary/middle school education major and a 2007 graduate of Veterans High School.

 

Senior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) was named the teamís MVP. DiBlasi placed 11th in the 400m hurdles (1:04.97) at the ECAC Div. III Championships on May 19-20. She placed 11th in the 400m hurdles (1:05.44) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 13-14. DiBlasi placed 23rd in the 400m hurdles (1:09.25) at the N.E. Div. III Championships at MIT on May 7. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. She placed first with a new program record (1:04.49) in the 400m hurdles, fourth in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time (16.13) and second as part of the 4x400m relay (4:07.08). She also placed sixth as part of the 4x100m relay (52.33). DiBlasi won both the 100m hurdles (16.90) and the 400m hurdles (1:07.36) at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. She won the 400m hurdles (1:06.38) and placed second in the 100m hurdles (16.56) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. DiBlasi won the 400m hurdles (1:06.79) and placed eighth in the 100m with a season-best time (13.75) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. She won the 400m hurdles (1:06.37) and placed 12th in the 100m (13.90) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26.

 

As a junior in 2010, DiBlasi was named the teamís MVP. She placed 17th in the 100m hurdles (16.04) at the ECAC Championships on May 14. She placed 21st in the 100m hurdles (16.12) and 23rd in the 400m hurdles (1:08.45) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 8. She earned All-New England honors in the 400m hurdles (1:06.79) with a season-best time and an eighth place finish, while also placing 10th in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles (16.33) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1. DiBlasi earned N.E. Alliance honors in both the 100m hurdles (16.00) and 400m hurdles (1:07.80) with third and fourth place finishes, respectively, at the Alliance Championships on April 24. DiBlasi placed second in the 100m hurdles with a new program-record time of 15.80 and second in the 400m hurdles (1:06.96) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. She placed first in the 100m hurdles (16.34) and 11th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:38.70 at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. DiBlasi placed first in the 100m hurdles (16.14) and fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:11.27) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3. She placed first in the 400m hurdles (1:09.04) and third in the 100m hurdles (16.55) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27.

 

As a sophomore in 2009, DiBlasi placed 16th in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles (16.74) at the ECAC Championship on May 15. DiBlasi placed 16th and 21st, respectively, in the preliminaries of both the 100m (16.59) and 400m hurdles (1:07.77) at the NEICAAA Championships on May 9. She placed 10th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.41 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 2. DiBlasi was the N.E. Alliance Champion in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:07.42 and as part of the 4x400m relay (4:12.03). She also earned N.E. Alliance honors in two additional events, placing third in both the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 16.24 and as part of the 4x100m relay with a season-best time of 51.93 at the Alliance Championships on April 25. She placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.40 and first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:08.15 at the Silfen Invitational on April 18.  DiBlasi placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.81 at the Wesleyan Invitational on April 11. She placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.81 and second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.48 at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4. DiBlasi placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.86 and third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.57 at the Trinity Invitational on March 28.

 

As a freshman in 2008, DiBlasi placed 19th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.61 at the ECAC Championships on May 16th. She placed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.96 at the N.E. Open Championships on May 10. DiBlasi placed 18th in the 400m hurdles (1:09.78), 10th in the 4x400m relay (4:19.38) and 15th in the 4x100m relay (53.31) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1-3. She earned New England Alliance honors in the 400m and 100m hurdles, placing first and fourth, respectively, with times of 17.08 and 1:07.26 (season-best) as well as the 4x400m relay, which placed third with a time of 4:20.25 at the Alliance Championships on Apr. 26. DiBlasi placed first in the 400m hurdles (1:08.35) and third in the 100m hurdles (17.00) at the Silfen Invitational on Apr. 19. She placed first in the 400m hurdles (1:09.63) and fourth in the 100m hurdles (16.97) at the Swanson Invitational on Apr. 12. DiBlasi placed fifth in the 100m hurdles (16.83) and 10th with a season-best effort in the long jump (4.28m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Apr. 5. She placed first with a season-best effort in the 100m hurdles (16.75) and in the triple jump (9.16m) at the RIC Invitational on Mar. 29. DiBlasi placed fourth in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 8.93m in the Husky Spring Open on Mar. 22.

 

DiBlasi is a nursing major and a 2007 graduate of Smithfield High School.

 

Sophomore Kim Mangum (Warwick, RI) placed 15th in the triple jump (10.90m) and 23rd in the long jump (4.98m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 13-14. Mangum earned All-New England honors by placing seventh in the long jump (5.37m) with a new program record effort at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 7, where she also finished 16th in the triple jump (10.50m). Mangum earned three N.E. Alliance honors at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. She placed first in the triple jump with a season-best time (11.11m), second in the long jump (5.27m) and second as part of the 4x400m relay (4:07.08). She also placed sixth as part of the 4x100m relay (52.33). Mangum placed third in both the long jump (4.56m) and triple jump (10.31m), while also finishing 10th in the high jump (1.30m) and 12th in the 400m (1:08.56) with season-best performances, at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. She finished second in the triple jump (10.35m), fourth in the 100m (14.19) and fifth in the long jump (4.40m) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. Mangum won the triple jump (10.81m), finished third in the long jump (4.74m) and took 11th in the 200m with a season-best time (29.32) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. Mangum placed eighth in the long jump (4.74m) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26.

 

Freshman Jessica Graham (Wakefield, RI) finished 13th in the pole vault with a new program record (3.10m) and 24th in the 400m hurdles (1:10.03) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 7. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. She placed third in the pole vault (3.05m), fourth in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time (1:08.02) and second as part of the 4x400m relay (4:07.08). She also placed sixth as part of the 4x100m relay (52.33) and 15th in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles (19.72). Graham won the pole vault (2.90m), and went on to place sixth in the 100m hurdles (17.92) and 10th in the 400m hurdles (1:17.21) at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. She finished fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:11.15), while taking fifth in both the 100m hurdles (17.75) and the pole vault (2.60m) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. Graham finished fourth in the pole vault (2.60m) and seventh in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time (17.32) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. She took second in the pole vault (2.75m) and 17th in the 100m hurdles (20.14) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26.

 

Freshman Jeanette Leo (Providence, RI) placed ninth in the hammer with a season-best performance (35.55m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. Leo placed eighth in the hammer throw (31.61m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. She finished fourth in the hammer (32.94m) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. Leo placed seventh in the hammer (34.43m) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. She finished 15th in the hammer (30.46m) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26.

 

Freshman Chelsea Marshall (New Bedford, MA) finished 14th in the 5,000m (21:01.02) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. Marshall placed ninth in the 5,000m with a season-best time (20:21.21) at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. She placed 14th in the 1,500m (5:30.57) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. Marshall finished 26th in the 800m with a season-best time (2:41.20) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2.  She placed 33rd in the 1,500m with a season-best time (5:29.83) at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted on March 26.

 

Freshman Natasha Miller (Wakefield, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors as part of the 4x400m relay (4:07.08), which placed second at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. She also placed sixth as part of the 4x100m relay (52.33), 21st in both the 200m (28.70) and the preliminaries of the 100m (13.89), while also finishing 23rd in the long jump (4.43m), at the Alliance Championships. She took third in both the 100m (13.89) and 200m with a season-best time (28.46), and also finished eighth in the long jump (4.31m), at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. Miller finished seventh in the 200m (28.84) and ninth in the 100m with a season-best time (13.75) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. She placed 13th in the 100m (13.90) at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted on March 26.
