Menís Golf Season Summary
(0-1 Overall)

 

Providence, RIóHead Coach Greg Gammellís (Career record: 25-9, .735) team finished the 2010-11 season with a 0-1 overall record. During the season, the Anchormen posted six top-three finishes at various tournaments.

 

Rhode Island College placed third (seven teams) with a score of 674 (339, 335) at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference/Little East Conference Alliance Championship on Oct. 30-31.

 

The Anchormen placed 26th (37 teams) with a score of 659 (334, 325) at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships on Oct. 18-19.

 

Rhode Island College earned second place finishes at the RIC Fall Invitational (Oct. 8), the Mitchell Quad (Oct. 13) and the Elms Invitational (April 21).

 

 

 

Senior Derek Jensen (Cumberland, RI) closed out his final season, competing in four matches during the fall and averaging a score of 82.0. Jensen shot a season-low score of 79 at the RIC Fall Invitational on Oct. 8.

 

As a junior in 2009-10, he was named All-Little East/GNAC. He competed in six matches in the fall, averaging a score of 79.9. He shot a season-low score of 74 at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Oct. 2.

 

As a sophomore in 2008-09, Jensen competed in all 14 contests on the season and averaged a score of 81.3. He competed in eight matches in the fall, averaging a score of 82.4, while averaging an 80.0 in six contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 75 during second round play at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Apr. 19. Jensen was named the team MVP for the second straight year.

 

As a freshman in 2007-08, he competed in 12 contests this season and averaged a score of 81.4. He competed in all seven matches in the fall, averaging a score of 80.6, while averaging an 83.0 in five contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 72 during first round action at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 26. He won the Alliance Championship individual title, the first RIC golfer to accomplish this feat, with a final two-day score of 146. Jensen was named the team MVP.

 

Jensen is a criminal justice major and a 2007 graduate of Cumberland High School.

 

Senior Bryan Picinisco (Dartmouth, MA) finished his career competing in 11 contests this season, averaging a score of 84.1. He competed in six matches during the fall, averaging a score of 83.4. Picinisco saw action in five contests during the spring, averaging a score of 84.6. He shot a season-low score of 76 at the Elms Invitational on Sept. 29.

 

As a junior in 2009-10, Picinisco was named All-Little East/GNAC and team MVP. He competed in 12 contests this season and averaged a score of 81.3. He competed in six matches in the fall, averaging a score of 78.9, while averaging an 83.4 in all six contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 74 at the RIC Invitational on Oct. 9.

 

As a sophomore in 2008-09, Picinisco competed in 12 contests on the season and averaged a score of 83.4. He competed in six matches in the fall, averaging a score of 84.4, while averaging an 82.5 in all six contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 77 during second round play at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Apr. 19.

 

Prior to coming to RIC, he attended the University of Tampa.

 

Picinisco is a communications major and a 2007 graduate of Dartmouth High School.

 

Senior Steve Zahn (Coventry, RI) averaged a score of 91.8 in four competitions in the fall campaign. He shot a season-low score of 88 at the Mitchell Quad on Oct. 13 and at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 30-31.

 

As a junior in 2009-10, Zahn competed in five contests on the season and averaged a score of 89.3. He competed in two matches in the fall and averaged a score of 89.0, while averaging a score of 89.5 in three contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 83 during second round play at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Apr. 18.

 

As a sophomore in 2008-09, he competed in three contests and averaged a score of 90.0. He competed in one match in the fall, where he shot a 90.0, and averaged a score of 90.0 in two contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 84 during second round play at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Apr. 19.

 

As a freshman in 2007-08, Zahn competed in seven contests and averaged a score of 92.6. He competed in one match in the fall, averaging a score of 89.5, while averaging a 93.4 in all six contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 88 twice, during a quad meet against Johnson and Wales, Wentworth and Newbury on April 18 and again on Apr. 25 at the Johnson & Wales Spring Invitational.

 

He is a management major and a 2007 graduate of Coventry High School.

 

Sophomore Justin Coffey (Hopedale, MA) averaged a score of 87.3 in three meets. He competed in two matches during the fall, averaging a score of 85.5. Coffey participated in one meet in the spring and shot a 91. He shot a season-low score of 85 at the Mitchell Quad on Oct. 13.

 

Sophomore Brian Fitzgerald (Mansfield, MA) averaged a score of 93.6 in four meets. He competed in two matches during the fall, averaging a score of 90.0. Fitzgerald took part in two contests in the spring, averaging a score of 96.0. He shot a season-low score of 89 at the RIC Fall Invitational on Oct. 8.

 

Sophomore Kyle Garcia (Rehoboth, MA) averaged a score of 84.2 in nine meets on the season. He competed in five contests in the fall, averaging a score 84.4. Garcia saw action in four meets in the spring, averaging a score of 84.0. He shot a season-low score of 80 twice, at the Hampton Spring Invitational on April 9-10 and again at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational on April 17-18.

 

Sophomore Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) was named All-Little East/GNAC and team MVP. He saw action in 11 matches on the season, averaging a score of 80.4. During the fall, he averaged a score of 79.8 in six competitions. In the spring, he averaged a score of 81.2 in five meets. Harper shot a season-low score of 75 at the RIC Fall Invitational on Oct. 8.

 

Sophomore Joseph Quinn (Dedham, MA) averaged a score 88.3 in five competitions this season. During the fall, he averaged a score of 90.5 in two meets. During the spring, he averaged a score of 87.3 in three competitions. He shot a season-low score of 85 twice, first at the Mitchell Quad on Oct. 13 and again at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational on April 17-18.

 

Freshman Joseph Fioramonti (North Bloomfield, CT) averaged a score of 88.0 in two competitions in the fall. He shot a season-low score of 82.0 at the NEIGA Championships on Oct. 18-19.

 

Freshman Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) joined the team in the spring and averaged a score of 78.9 in five competitions. He shot a season-best score of 76 at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational on April 17-18.
