TRASSO & SUTHERLAND TAKE HOME TITLES
AS WRESTLING OPENS SEASON

Bristol, RI-Junior 141 lbs. Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) and senior 149 lbs. Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) each won their respective weight class as the Rhode Island College wrestling team placed fourth at the Roger Williams Invitational to open the 2010-11 season.

 

Messiah (146.5), Roger Williams (120.0) and Johnson & Wales (120.0) finished ahead of the Anchormen (116.5). RIC had seven wrestlers place at the meet.

 

 

 Junior 141 lbs. Mike Trasso

 

Trasso went unbeaten, going 4-0 after receiving a bye in the first round. He defeated Ty Kanouff from Messiah, 6-2, in the finals.

 

 

 Senior 149 lbs. Kevin Sutherland

 

Sutherland went 5-0 to claim his weight class, defeating Wesleyan’s Howard Tobochnik, 11-7, in the finals.

 

Junior Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA) went 4-1 to place third at 125 lbs., defeating Johnson & Wales’ James Soprano, 7-3, in his final bout.

 

Senior Travis Drappi (West Orange, NJ) went 4-1 to place third at 133 lbs., defeating MIT’s Grant Kadokura, 9-0, in his last match.

 

Sophomore Josh Baker (Jackson, NJ) placed fifth at 133 lbs., going 5-2.

 

Freshman Kevin Barrucci (Burlington, MA) placed sixth at 149 lbs., going 5-3.

 

Senior Chris Dean (Copiague, NY) placed sixth at 184 lbs., going 2-3.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College on Saturday, Nov. 20.
