THREE RECORDS FALL AS RIC OPENS SEASON
AT SPRINGFIELD INVITATIONAL

Springfield, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s indoor track and field team opened the 2010-11 season at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Anchorwomen placed third (five teams) with a team score of 75. Springfield won the meet with a score of 239.50.

 

Three new program records were established at the meet. Senior Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) placed first in the 3,000m with a school-record time of 11:08.40.

She also teamed with freshmen Chelsea Marshall (New Bedford, MA) and Jessica Graham (Wakefield, MA) and classmate Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) to break the program mark in the 4x800m (10:52.59) with a second place finish.

Graham then broke the pole record (2.59m) with a fifth place performance.

Freshman Katie Palumbo (Greenville, RI) and senior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) placed second (1:44.38) and third (1:45.23), respectively in the 600m.

 

Marshall also took home third (5:49.59) in the mile. Senior Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) placed second (10.27m) in the triple jump.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11.
