Greg Ahnrud Joins RIC Track Staff

Providence, R.I.óRhode Island College has named Greg Ahnrud í08 as an assistant menís and womenís track and field coach. He will assist Head Coach Kevin Jackson in all phases of the RIC track program including, recruiting, scouting, administering practice and meet coaching. 

 

 

 

Ahnrud competed for the RIC cross country and track programs from 2006-08 after transferring in from Assumption College.

 

ďI canít wait to start working with the student-athletes,Ē Ahnrud said. ďWe have a very talented group and I think I have a lot to offer the program.

 

During his outdoor career, the Glocester, Rhode Island native earned several N.E. Alliance honors. As a senior in 2008, he placed fifth in the 1,500m (4:07.44) at the Alliance Championships. As a junior in 2007, he earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, placing sixth in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 4:09.67, seventh in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:00.60 and fifth as part of the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:32.47. As a sophomore in 2006, Ahnrud earned N.E. Alliance honors in the 1,500m, placing eighth with a time of 4:15.30.

 

In his three indoor campaigns, Ahnrud picked up N.E. Alliance honors in the 1,000m, placing sixth with a season-best time of 2:38.97 at the annual conference invitational as a senior in 2007-08. As a junior in 2006-07, Ahnrud earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events. He placed sixth in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 2:42.31 and second as part of the 4x800m relay team with a time of 8:14.67. As a sophomore in 2005-06, Ahnrud earned N.E. Alliance honors in the 1,000m and the 4x800m relay at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Ahnrud placed seventh in the 1,000m with a time of 2:42.59 and fifth as part of the 4x800m relay squad, which placed fifth with a time of 8:41.54.

 

 

 

As a senior in 2007, he was named the cross country teamís MVP. Ahnrud was RICís top runner, placing 122nd with a season-best time (26:59) at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 61st (28:07) at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 3. Ahnrud placed 56th (28:15) at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 27.

 

As a junior in 2006, he placed 210th at the NCAA N.E. Div. III Championships with a time of 30:33 on Nov. 11. He placed 151st with a time of 29:42 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 4. Ahnrud placed 63rd with a time of 30:35 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 28.

 

As a sophomore in 2005, he placed 193rd overall with a time of 29:41 at the NCAA N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. He was 172nd with a time of 29:22 at the ECAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 5. He was 56th with a time of 29:11.92 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29.

 

Ahnrud has a USA Track & Field Level One certification.

 

He received his bachelorís degree in political science and history from Rhode Island College in 2008. Ahnrud is currently working on his masterís degree in public administration from the University of Rhode Island.

 

He is single and resides in Providence.
