Matt Holt Named Assistant Men’s
Basketball Coach at Rhode Island College

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College has named Matt Holt as an assistant men’s basketball coach. He will assist Head Coach Bob Walsh and current Assistant Coach Chris Burns in all phases of the program including, recruiting, scouting, administering practice and game coaching.

 

“I feel very privileged to be a part of the Rhode Island College men's basketball program,” Holt said. “Coach Walsh has done an unbelievable job here and I am excited to get to work towards continued success.”

 

 

“Matt comes to us with great experience for his age, having been a part of a great program at Northeastern for five years,” Walsh said. “He's smart and hungry and will help our program in all aspects. We are very lucky to have him.”

 

Holt joins the program after a five-year stint as the Head Student Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator for the Northeastern University men’s basketball program. From 2007-11, Holt directed a staff of 10 in practice preparation and in-game bench responsibilities. He aided in team travel coordination of flights, buses, hotels and game day operations.

 

Holt also was responsible for inter-collegiate film exchange per National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) agreements. He corresponded with member of Div. I schools to obtain and exchange scouting material. Holt broke down and analyzed opponent game film in conjunction with the Northeastern staff.

 

He also gained AAU coaching experience with the Rhode Island Breakers.

 

He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in history from Northeastern in 2011. Holt, a Providence native, is a 2006 graduate of Classical High School. He played both basketball and baseball for the Purple, winning the Al Morro Award for baseball as a senior.

 

Holt is single and resides in Providence, Rhode Island.
