Morin Wins Twice for Anchormen

Providence, R.I.-Freshman Michael Beluch (Lynn, MA) won at both No. 1 singles and No.  1 doubles to help lead the Regis College menís tennis team to a 6-3 win over Rhode Island College at the RIC Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.


RIC (0-1), which was playing its first match of the season, gave away two quick points with forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, giving the Pride (2-1) an early advantage.


The two squads split in doubles action as Beluch paired with sophomore Daniel Berdichevsky (Wayland, MA) for a shutout (8-0) victory at the top spot. RIC senior Jason Morin (East Providence, RI) combined with freshman Sean Raudonaitis (Wesport, MA) for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Pride took three of five in singles action to seal the victory as Beluch scored a straight set (6-1, 6-1) win at the top spot, sophomore Andy White (Bozeman, MT) won at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-4) and junior Matt Smolko (Pelham, NH) won at No. 5 singles (6-3, 3-6, 10-8).


For RIC, Morin took out Berdichevsky in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) at No. 2 singles, while junior Jack Adamo (Warwick, RI) defeated hit opponent (6-1, 6-4) at No. 4 singles.


In upcoming action, the Anchormen will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Friday, Sept. 30 (3:30 p.m.)
